Windows 10: ATI X1600 pro AGP

Anybody got an AGP card with Windows 10 ?

I've tried 3 drivers and 2 of them gives BSOD and the third says the INF file is incomplete.

That's for my father's PC.

ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 not compatible with Windows 10?

My laptop is HP Compaq nw8440 running Windows 7 and ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 display driver. When I do a Win 10 "Check your PC" it says "ATI Mobility Radeon X1600, the display manufacturer hasn't made your display compatible with Windows 10. Check with
the manufacturer". Will this stop Windows 10 from being installed successfully?

I have no driver problems in Windows 7.

I had big Troubles and Problems with HP NC8430 and a ATI X1600 Display Card with Windows 10 / 32bit.

The Solution was after hours of Troubleshooting quite simple:

- First: Install Driver Version: 8.593.100

- Second: Deactivate hypernation mode.

-> go in a command line and type: powercfg -h off

THATS IT !!!

 

I can't swear that it's impossible, but it may require a miracle.

The X1600 is old enough to be a challenge if it was a PCI-E card. If it's an AGP version, the challenge is squared.

The latest AGP hotfix drivers Google was able to find on a (German) AMD web site are 12.1:

They may not support the X1600, and they're still fairly old (Win7/Vista X86; no X64).

I'm not convinced that upgrading a system that old to Win 10 is wise. Good luck in whatever you decide to try.

I use the 64 bit Windows 7 version and it works fine.

My father's system is still going good, it's a special motherboard, Conroe865PE.

It's a E4300 with 2GB of RAM and a 32GB SSD. I could try the driver for HD2xxx but I don't think it will work. I'm thinking about trying the nVidia 7600GS here, I could have better luck.

 

Maybe. The latest official drivers for that card are 309.08, for Windows 7. The release notes list support for the AGP version.

 

Finding a legacy driver for that gonna be tough, if even workable. Legacy vista/ seven drivers might work but theirs many and you have to try to finesse it.
Also many of the old ones are 32 bit only.

 

One problem with getting an AGP video card driver to install is that it requires the chipset AGP driver to be installed first. Without that the video card driver will ether fail to install, or if it does manage to install it won't work properly.

Now for the fun part. In the case of the motherboard in your father's computer the chipset is the old Intel 865PE (came out in 2003), of which Intel dropped support for back before even Vista came out. You can try the last XP driver for it,

ASRock > ConRoe865PE

but pretty sure it will fail to install.

Hate to say it but this is likely one of those cases where it is better to either stick with an older version of Windows or buy a new computer.
