attempted downgrade from W11Pro to W11Home, but MS Acct "updated" my system during...

I started out with Windows 11 Pro and set up a Microsoft account with 100Gigs storage and iCloud sync.My Windows 11 Pro installation got destroyed by an errant backup program, and my backup was ruined too, although I have a USB stick with my documents and downloads on it. So, I decided to take this opportunity to switch to Windows 11 home. I had an older computer with Windows 10 Home, and when I destroyed it before junking it I wrote down the Product Key, so I decided to use that for the Windows 11 Home edition because, as far as I know, that is legitimate. So, I started with a clean install us

    MS Acct vs Local acct

I think you can take extra mesurments like two-step authentication, but as you said, using an MS Acct needs you to be more carefull than a local one.

System Restore won't open with MS Acct p/w

Running Insider 17134. I attempted to "restore" to correct a problem with Win 10 17134. I have made frequent "restore points", however when going to System Restore in the problems area of the boot screen I was unable to "sign In". I was told that my MS acct # won't work. However, the MS acct # p/w is used to open System restore on a HP Laptop running the non Insider ver of W 10.

    MS Acct vs Local acct

You said exactly this, the last sentence of your post I quoted:

And I still say no, it's exactly the opposite: you can never make a local account as safe as an MS Account. You need to be more careful with a local account which cannot be secured with two step verification.
