Windows 10: Attempting to access C:\ causes file explorer to freeze and crash

If I right or left-click C:\ or any folder within it from quick access, file explorer freezes and crashes. I experienced this problem once before, and I reinstalled windows to fix it. I had chalked it up to a weird bug, but now it's happened twice in two weeks. The only weird thing I've done is that I have OneDrive mounted in a folder inside of C:\ directly to facilitate Solidworks work within a team on a shared location in OneDrive. I've restarted my computer, explorer, cleared the explorer cache, run sfc/scannow, and nothing has worked. In addition, some programs within C:\ are inoperable, b

Quick Access Crashes Explorer

Quick Access is a new feature in Windows 10 File Explorer navigation pane which helps users quickly navigate to locations which are frequently used. However, if you're having issues with Quick Access, you can try to disable and enable it. To disable Quick
Access, follow these steps:

• Type File Explorer Option in the search box.
• Click on File Explorer Options.
• Under General tab, choose This PC in the Open File Explorer to: drop down menu.
  
• Uncheck Show recently used files in Quick access and
  Show frequently use folders in Quick access.
• Click Apply an OK.
• Restart the computer and re-enable Quick access.

Let us know how it goes after performing the suggested troubleshooting steps.

 

File Explorer Crashes Due To Quick Access - Registry Fix?

I was following a guide suggesting putting custom items in the File Explorer Quick Access Panel.
I think I actually set something already in the quick panel - or a "divider line", which I was trying to move to the right so I could see what was in the quick panel already - to be in the quick panel.
At which point File Explorer crashed.
An attempt to open it, whether from a desktop folder or the taskbar, crashes (and also wipes and reups the taskbar contents).
Opening File Explorer Options from the start button, clearing the cache and unticking the two boxes for showing history in the Quick Access panel does NOT help.
Basically, I've lost file explorer. There must be registry entries that could reset the Quick Access to its original state.

My File Explorer Keeps Crashing after clicking the Downloads Folder.

Hello Microsoft Team,

I need help as when I attempt to open the downloads folder through file explorer my whole file explorer freezes, and then crashes. A cause of this may be that before this freeze started occuring, I multiple selected a few files and may have accidentaly clicked a button, but I am not entirely sure. I saw a similar post about this but when I tried the steps they did not work
