Windows 10: Attempting To Cheat Death; Converting a HDMI output into Input>?

I'm working with a coworker with his laptop, and he wants to be able to play his Xbox one on his soon to be windows ten laptop, (as soon as he brings it in), and doing a bit of research, connecting the two is a simple Crossover Ethernet, plus the little features Xbox one provides anyway with windows 10; but I'm legitimately curious if anyone has gotten a switch for HDMI Output into Input box to actually work? I am genuinely curious to see if one could cheat death in this case. Thank you for reading.

We would like to suggest to contact your manufacturer of your monitor to ask for confirmation. Ask them if the monitor accepts HDMI input and output. Some laptops will not still convert video outputs, even if you use a VGA converter to HDMI.

• SAMSUNG RF511 Laptop
• Runs WINDOWS 10
• LG Digital & Analog DVD recorder player combi
• Connected with HDMI cable
• I believe the laptop's HDMI port plays both ways (input/output)
• The LG Device's HDMI Port is output only
• Attempting to play and convert VHS videos, to be digitally archived in my laptop
• What kind of program would allow me to perform this task

At a guess, no.

Ethernet is necessarily bi-directional. HDMI isn't, except for ARC (audio return channel), which is normally used to send audio out of a TV to a compatible AVR (audio video receiver). The ARC audio bandwidth is a small fraction of the video bandwidth.

I was going to make a crack about powering your house by reversing the flow through the charger, but that would be too snarky.

 

Some all in ones have an HDMI in but on most laptops its HDMI out only. And there is no magic way to send a signal into it, and have it display on the laptops screen. The HDMI jack is hard wired right to the video card and can only send a video signal out.
If he has a router, connect the XBOX and laptop to it in the normal way. Then use the Windows 10 XBOX App to stream the XBOX to the laptop. You can then play the game on the XBOX from your laptop. You'll need to connect an XBOX controller to the laptop to play the games. Otherwise you'll just get a no controller found massage and the game won't launch. Or use the XBOX glass App I guess. I don't know if that will work for games though?
