Windows 10: "Attrib.exe" randomly running and using 70-80%+ of my CPU

Discus and support "Attrib.exe" randomly running and using 70-80%+ of my CPU in AntiVirus, Firewalls and System Security to solve the problem; I'm using Windows 10 and there are random times where this file called "attrib.exe" with a process name "Attribute Utility" will suddenly run and use...     "Attrib.exe" randomly running and using 70-80%+ of my CPU


    I'm using Windows 10 and there are random times where this file called "attrib.exe" with a process name "Attribute Utility" will suddenly run and use up around 70-80% of my CPU, sometimes even more. Since it's located in System32, I didn't delete it as I'm afraid I might break my PC or something.


    What is this file/process? Why does it suddenly run? And why does it use up so much of my CPU?

    Finally I have found the best way to remove Cortana and get my CPU back from 70-80% down to 20% in Windows 10.

    I followed this site to get Cortana to be remove from Windows 10. My CPU was being usin 70-80% (50-60% was being used by Cortana process). Cortana is a huge hog CPU wasting process.

    Can't run .exe file

    Hi Phil,

    There are several reasons why you are having issues running .exe files on your Windows 10 laptop. To assist you better, kindly answer the questions below:

    • Have you made any changes to your laptop prior to this issue?
    • What troubleshooting steps have you done so far?
    • What is the error message that you received when running .exe files?

    To assist you better, I would like to ask if you have installed any Antivirus in the Laptop.

    I suggest you to run the program in compatibility mode by following the steps provided below and check if the issue persist.

    • Right click on the “.exe” file of the program and select properties.
    • Under Compatibility tab, check the option for “Run in Compatibility mode”.
    • Select the Operating System from the drop down list.
    • Click on Apply and OK.
