Windows 10: Audio comes out from both speakers and headset after windows 10 update

Model 27-k150xt (HP Envy 27) with IDT High Definition Codec.

I updated to Windows 10 pro from Microsoft when the upgrade was free about 5 months . version 1607 build 14393.576. I never noticed the issue until yesterday.

Plug in a headset known to be working fine on other Windows 10 devices, but sound continues from desktop as well as headset. Other headsets produce the same results. I know this was not an issue when desktop was windows 7.

* Tried steps online for setting default to headset. No luck.

* HP site says my drivers are up date.

* I've tried installing a driver for IDT I found online, but says I'm already up to date
when I run it or that not compatible with my hardware.

* Windows Update is current.

Worth it to pay for HP support?

Any help or ideas is greatly appreciated.

Windows 10 Loss of audio devices not sound.

Hello all,

I have been running windows 10 for a few weeks now. This past week I logged on to my computer and tried to change the audio device from my speaker set to my headset and I realized there weren't and audio devices. I tested my sound and it came out just fine
from the speakers. I plugged my headset in and the sound continued to come out of the speakers.

I went to step 1 "Turn it off and back on" Sound was coming out of my headset now but still no audio devices. The computer isn't detecting when I plug and unplug my audio devices now. I have tried reinstalling the drivers for my head set. My speaker set
and my monitor have the 3.5mm jacks and they only work if I start the computer with the headset unplugged.

The kicker for me is If I try the audio troubleshooting it sees ALL the devices but it says nothing is wrong with them.

 

Bluetooth Audio output not coming after recent recent windows 10 upgrade

I am using Nokia BH-503 as bluetooth headphone. This was working well in windows 7 as well as Windows 10. However with recent Windows 10 upgrade there were many problems in Audio output. Audio was not coming from Laptop speaker as well from Bluetooth headphone.
With some driver tweeks (as posted in some communities) audio started coming from laptop speakers, but still not coming from bluetooth headset.

Nokia-BH-503 gets connect with laptop as a stereo speaker, on sound properties its shows as default output, but no audio comes.

Should i roll back to earlier version of windows 10?

Welcome to the Ten forums.

This article talks to your issue or your machine, yes it is labelled Win 8. The error described in article is more to do when your headset has a mic and you talk the sound comes out both places.

It specifically mentions, when hearing sounds from both Headset and Speaker, going into recording tab and unclicking "Listen to this device".

You didn't mention if your headsets had mics. Might be worth a peek.

Re the sound driver updating. I would get it from HP, which you said was up to date. If you uninstall device there is an option to uninstall software. If you decide to explore this route, create a restore point and have a copy of a "Working driver" on hand so you can return.

Can't comment on value of HP support but they likely have a forum that deals with your family of machines.

 

I don't have IDT so I can't check, but Realtek has a control program (HD Audio Manager) and one of the options in the control program is to either mute the speakers when a headset is plugged in, or not mute the speakers. Look around in your PC and see if there a similar program.

RIGHT click on the Start "Windows" icon on the lower left and then LEFT Click on Control Panel. Click on Hardware and Sound and see if something is listed.
