Windows 10: Audio device not working, driver will not install properly

I was using my computer normally and was watching a video with headphones. I finished the video, walked away for about 20 minutes, and then came back without touching the computer. The computer was asleep and when I woke it up, suddenly the headphones were not working. The built in speakers seem to be fine, but no sound comes through the headphones. The computer still recognizes them and the audio device manager still pops up, so I don't think it's a software problem, but I hear no sound. Computer is an Asus Zephyrus, running windows 10. I have also confirmed the headphones are working and the

Modem on HD Audio device not installed....

I just bought a Toshiba Equiem P200D 139 lappy which came with Vista. Having spent a couple of days with it its obvious that Vista is a bit too much for it (or maybe it was the pre-installed bloat...), so I've installed XP Pro on it. So far so good, its much more responsive now, and I've found most of the drivers for it (a bit of a chore since Toshiba don't list any XP drivers!!).

Device Manager only shows one remaining triangle, beside Modem on HD Audio device, and I just can't find a driver for it! Tried right clicking and update driver, which worked for a few devices, but this one obstinately refuses to work. Any ideas?*Bang Head :banghead:

 

Numerous audio devices - why?

Looks like you have audio drivers installed for your AMD card. If you don't use it, you should be able to just uninstall that aspect of AMD drivers. I don't use the Audio through my Nvidia card, so I just don't install that driver.

Or, just ignore them as you suggest.

 

HDMI audio driver for ASUS X551M laptop?

This is from Intel regarding hdmi:

• Install the latest Intel® Graphics Driver, this also installs the latest audio codecs for HDMI.
• After driver installation, connect to the HDMI TV or digital display, using a HDMI cable.
• Select HDMI audio as your default playback device. Click Start>Control Panel>Hardware and Sound.
• Click Sound. The Playback tab lists the audio playback devices for your computer.
• Right-click on the device for HDMI audio, and select Set as Default Device.
