Audio formats for sound devices kept reverting to 16-bit 48000Hz DVD Quality

Recently I have started using my 3.5mm Jack headset plugged into an HDMI to VGA adapter which splitted the HDMI signal seperately into audio 3.5mm and video VGA output. Before, I was using it directly onto the laptop's audio plug, which is recognised as Headphones RealtekR Audio by default.I always use the highest format possible, which is the 24-bit, 48000Hz Studio quality for all my sound devices. However, when using this adapter, which is recognised as IntelR Display audio, it seems to keep reverting the settings back into 16-bit. 48000Hz DVD quality which sounds really bad. D

What is the difference between 16bit 48000hz with dvd quality and without dvd quality?

Audio formats for sound devices kept reverting to 16-bit 48000Hz DVD Quality p9jsMhC.png

    As the attached image,
when I plugged Yamaha pjp-20ur on my Windows 8.1 notebook,
the default format has two option:

    • '16bit, 48000Hz' =>seems to be default
    • '16bit, 48000Hz (DVD Quality)'

what is the difference between the two option?

the reason why I ask this question:

    • first option: playing system test sound --> no sound
    • second option: playing system test sound --> OK

and when I open webRTC sample page on chrome

sample page: getUserMedia: output device selection

    and select Yamaha pjp-20ur

    • first default format option: sound came out from the default playback
    • second default format option: OK

so what's the difference between the two default format?
They have same bit depth and same sample rate, one option has note 'DVD quality' and another doesn't.

Why cant i change the input audio format for my Airpods

Whenever I try using the microphone in my AirPods the audio quality is horrible. I tried to fix this issue but the format is stuck on '1 channel, 16 bit, 8000hz (Telephone Quality). The format is stuck at this and it wont let me change it. However, the format for the output audio is '2 channels, 16 bit, 48000hz (DVD Quality). The audio sounds fine when I'm not using the microphone and I think the problem is with the input audio format. All of my Bluetooth drivers are up to date and I have tried almost everything I can I'm not sure what else to do.

Changing bit depth/sample rate in playback device settings stops audio output

Most audio files are 16 bit and 44100Hz or 48000Hz.

As I have my audio playback for my 5.1 surround sound set to 24bit 48000Hz (studio), it is not going to produce a 24 bit quality sound from a 16 bit audio source. It will just start becoming distorted in the sound.

That is like taking a music file that is 172kb/s and playing it at 384kb/s settings. You will never get the quality of 384kb/s and the sound will be very distorted.

Or like trying to play a video with 720x480p and think it will play in 1280x720 HD. It is not going to happen.

and 96000Hz, I doubt you will find any audio files at that rate.

48000Hz will be about the max.
