Windows 10: Audio has sound icon and x symbol but volume can be controlled

ASplit from this thread. Quick Audio setting doesn't show audio devices and audio always have sound icon and x symbol but volume can be controlled

The issue with volume control could have happened due to the corrupted or outdated driver. To resolve your issue, we suggest that you follow the 2 methods below:

Method 1: Run the Audio Troubleshooter on the system.



Windows 10 has a built-in troubleshooter to check and fix issues with Sound. We would suggest you run this troubleshooter to check if the issue is with your Audio



Refer these steps:

• Press Windows key+X, select Control panel.
• Change the view as an option on the top right to Large icons.
• Click on troubleshooting and click on the view all option on the left panel
• Run the playing Audio troubleshooter

Method 2. Uninstall and reinstall the latest drivers from the manufacturer website.

Follow the steps to update the audio drivers:

• Press Windows key + X key and click Device Manager.
• Expand the Sound, Video and game controllers.
• Right-click on the Sound card and click on Uninstall.
• Install the latest audio driver from the manufacturer website.

I have normal sound but cannot remove red X on volume icon

Hello,

My volume icon has a red X on it. When i hover over it is saus "no speakers or headphones connected." My sound works normally. However, I when I click on the volume icon, instead of it showing a list on audio output choices, it goes to Edge and searches for ways to fix my audio. In SYSTEM -> SOUND I have realtek audio chosen as audio output.

I have tried finding updating the driver for my soundcard (said most updated driver already installed)
I tried SERVICES and stopping and starting Windows Audio services
I tried disabling unused audio drivers.

Most of the googled answers are for problems where there is NO sound, but my speakers are connects and sound plays. It's just the red X is always there and I cannot use the icon normally to select other audio outputs.

 

My sound is not working. A mute sign is coming in my volume control, and when i click on it troubleshooter gets start.
