Windows 10: Audio input devices not working on pc

Hello, I am having issues with my microphone. It used to work fine about two months ago, but since then sound is not being recorded from my microphone headset. The device is detected by device manager and it shows up under control panel, but under sound settings>input>device properties the sound test shows 0%. I have tested this with a different set of headphones and have the same issue.


These are all of the things I have tried:

Sound settings>input>troubleshoot does not detect an issue

Troubleshoot audio recording does not detect an issue

Installed all Windows updates

Installed updates through AMD Radeon Software

Intel Driver and Support Assistant says there are no available driver or software updates

Uninstalled and reinstalled all of my sound drivers AMD High Definition Audio Device and High Definition Audio Device as well as the audio headset device

Ensured microphone and speakers were enabled under sounds>recording/playback

Updated drivers in device manager using "browse computer for software" then "show compatible hardware" then "high definition audio"

Microphone privacy settings are set to allow access and allow apps to access microphone

I have not moved my PC at all to possibly cause damage to the microphone jack

Is it possible that the problem has something to do with there being two audio devices AMD high def audio device and high def audio device? I have run out of ideas. I appreciate any help.

No audio input or output devices found

After the last update of Windows 10, no audio devices are listed

Searching in the device manager: all audio devices say it works fine

The sound setting says: no output or input devices were found.

WASAPI can't see audio input of generic USB audio device


I have a very old Roland audio interface (UA1-EX) which I have to use in its generic USB audio mode because it is no longer supported by Roland. I have been able to get it working using ASIO4ALL and record from its audio input, albeit very poorly. So I decided to try using it with WASAPI. However in my DAW's audio device controls, the mic input of the interface is not listed, even though its ouput is. Why would the input of a generic USB audio device not be available in WASAPI?
