Windows 10: Audio Input Devices Won't Work on Laptop

Recently, I have been unable to use microphones with my laptop (Windows 10). In-game chat for videogames, audacity, and the "test your microphone" part of settings, I cannot get audio input to function. In particular, when I try to record audio with audacity, I get the message "Error while opening sound device. Please check the recording device settings and thI would greatly appreciate any insights! e project sampling rate." I checked these settings, but they do not say much about the device. This happens with any microphone I try to use. For what it's worth, audio output is fine (headphones work, albeit not bluetooth) and my USB drives seem to still work (I can use a wireless USB mouse or flash drives, and audio input devices seem to register when plugged in, but they don't work).

If I left out any pertinent information, please let me know. I would greatly appreciate any insights!

Skype webcam sound won't work

Terminate Skype, then go to Control panel -> Sound and audio devices -> Audio -> un-check "Use only default devices", restart Skype and see if the webcam audio input is listed.

 

Remote device doesn’t detect audio input

The problem that the audio input of my laptop is not visible by the remote computer. I did troubleshooting steps such as checked settings, group policy, remote desktop services. No problem. But it remote audio device isn’t picking up input from my
mic.

 

No audio input or output devices found

After the last update of Windows 10, no audio devices are listed

Searching in the device manager: all audio devices say it works fine

The sound setting says: no output or input devices were found.
