Windows 10: Audio input says cable not plugged in.

I have 2 side by side Dell 9020 SFF computers with i7 4770 and 16 GB memory.

Both have SSD drives.

Both have WIN 10 Pro.


I have a 12" M-M 3.5mm stereo cable from the output of one 9020 to the input of the other using the rear jacks.

I keep getting cable not plugged in error on the second computer.

All internet searches result in headphone or speaker issues.


What I want to do is be able to use one pair of headphones with 2 computers simultaneously.
If I can feed the output of one into the input of the other then I can use the mixer to adjust volumes.


Windows does not allow me to select that input.

Rear audio ports always show as “Not plugged in”


I've been having this issue with Windows for about a week now which NONE of the back panel/front panel connectors (speakers, microphone) are being recognized by Realtek audio manager. The only audio input/outputs that are showing are the optical.
Troubling shooting steps I've tried (none worked):

• COMPLETELY uninstall all Realtek drivers/reinstall
  
• Tried using windows drivers
  
• Reinstall Windows 10
  
• Upgraded chipset driver
  
• sfc /scannow

I called EVGA and asked for RMA but then I booted into a Ubuntu OS and all the ports work FINE. It must be a problem with windows 10.
Can you think of any other troubling shooting step I can try to fix this annoying issue? Thanks!

After looking in Device Manager under Audio inputs and outputs, I don't see any speaker/microphone listings, only the optical crap:

 

Windows 10 Audio input to programs broken

Recently my audio input, from USB headset and USB guitar cable have stopped working. Going into Windows 'Sounds' and enabling 'Listen to this device' outputs the audio as expected; the problem is not with the devices. However, as soon as I try to use them with any other program, discord, for example, no audio input is detected by discord.

I have tried everything I can think of and some suggestions from Googling around;

• Updating everything - windows, drivers, all related software
  
• Rolling windows back to the last build
  
• Trying different USB ports
  
• Reinstalling drivers and software
  
• Running Windows troubleshooters
  
• Playing with device properties settings
  

But nothing seems to work, any suggestions?

 

Devices plugged into audio input fail to work

Hi!

I'm having some problems with the audio on Windows 10. The speakers work fine and appear as playback in the sound menu. However, everytime I plug in any external device in the audio input, the devices don't play any sound, instead the speakers just keep
on playing. These devices also don't appear in the audio playback menu (not even as hidden devices).

The problem cannot be the hardware: I have a dual boot computer with Ubuntu and both the plugged in devices and computer speakers work normally in that enviorment. So the devices and audio input are both not broken.

To fix this I tried to reinstall the audio drivers. So I went to Device Manager to sound, video and game controllers. I deleted Realtek(R) Audio. Afterwards it asks me to reboot my computer. The strange thing is: if I reboot my computer with my headphones
plugged in, only the headphones work afterwards (or any other device plugged into the audio input) but the speakers are silenced. But if my headphones are not plugged in during reboot, only the speakers of the computer work, but no devices pluggd into the
audio input.

Hope some of you guys can help me out with this!
