    Bluetooth Audio stuttering

Recently upgraded my PC and reinstalled Windows 10.

I run my main audio through a Razer Leviathan bluetooth speaker and a headset through the optical connector for comms.

Never had any issues until recently, where any audio stutters when coming through the Bluetooth speaker. There's no stutter through the headset for any audio (comms, music, youtube, netflix etc) and there's no stutter if I connect the speaker to another
device such as my phone and hold it at the other side of the house. I recently bought a USB Bluetooth adapter in case it was something faulty on my new motherboard, but the issue persists with this device too.

I've tried reinstalling the drivers and reconnecting for Bluetooth and the speaker, but the problem persists. If I move the speaker, sometimes the signal cuts out entirely or it can be fine, but it has not been moved from the same spot on my desk prior to
the issue occurring so it's not an issue of the location of the speaker. There's no WiFi (cabled and disabled the WiFi option) and just a desk surface for the signal to pass through. Again, it could connect to my phone on the other side of the house and play
    audio fine.

I'm thinking its a software/driver problem at this point.

    Any suggestions would be helpful.

  3. Bluetooth audio stuttering

Recently my Bluetooth headset start to stutter and skip in Windows after about ~2 minutes of use. This problem started occurring no more than two weeks ago and I have had no previous problems with either windows Bluetooth or the Bluetooth of the headset. I only use the headset as headphones.

My laptop is a Asus Tuf Gaming FX505DV; Ryzen 7 3750H, RTX2060, Realtek RTL8822CE wireless. I should also mention that the laptop is dual-boot and all parts in the laptop are completely stock except a SATA SSD that was added after purchase and contains only an ArchLinux system. The headphones are the Sony WH-CH710Ns, the audio stuttering issue is not present on other devices I use like my phone. I am connected to my WiFi using the 5GHz band. Although I don't have the greatest of memory, I do not remember doing anything to the system (updating drivers, reseting, etc.) around the time the issue first appeared.

    What I have tried:

    • Built-in Bluetooth troubleshooter from the settings menu, it found no problems and did not fix the issue
    • Disabling audio effects on the headphones, nothing changed.
    • Disabling the headset device and using only the headphones from the sound menu.
    • Reseting the headset.
    • Changing the audio format, only two are offered for the headset: 2 Channel, 16 bit, 44100 Hz and 1 Channel, 16 bit, 44100 Hz. Only the two channel option works as attempting to use the single channel option throws the warning "Format not supported by device" and is automatically switched back to the two channel format.
    • Disabling Hands-Free telephony
    • Restarting Bluetooth support services
    • Every possible combination of updated driver, generic driver and old drivers for sound, wireless and Bluetooth devices.
    • Completely uninstalling and re-installing drivers for Bluetooth, audio and wireless devices
    • Updating windows from the windows update menu in Settings
    • Updating by downloading the bootable windows 10 medium and selecting update and repair
    • Updating to Windows 11
    • Reseting the from Reset my PC in Settings, keeping all files
    • Full reset from Reset my PC in Settings, removing all files and programs.
    • Fullest reset: uninstalled Windows, deleted every partition on the drive, re-made the partition table and installed windows from an install medium (USB Drive)
Of all the things I've tried, only updating the Bluetooth drivers made it seem to work slightly better, it takes longer for the issue to start and does not cut out quite as much as with generic or un-updated drivers.

At this point it is not unreasonable to assume this may be a hardware issue with either the headphones or the computer itself but I am led to believe this is not the case for the headphones work flawlessly on any other device. I also used other Bluetooth audio devices (Another pair of WH-CH710Ns, and a bluetooth speaker) and they all share the same issue. Maybe the audio I'm listening to is cutting out? No, the system audio cuts out just like any other audio, they cut out at the same time.

It is also not an issue with sound devices as both HDMI audio and built-in headphone jack audio work flawlessly.

This may also be an issue of interference from other 2.4 GHz devices or hardware issues with the laptop itself. To verify this, I booted into Linux and tested the headphones on Linux on the exact same hardware and with default drivers. The problem did not appear on Linux after about eight hours of use leading me to believe it is not a problem with hardware or interference. Regardless, I opened my laptop up and re-seated both the wireless card and the antenna connector and the problem still persists.

Other things that may be of note:

    • Stuttering doesn't seem to be consistent i.e. sometimes its only slightly stuttering, others its complete silence broken up by occasional audio every couple of seconds
    • Rarely when audio has been cut off for roughly 30 seconds straight the headset will just disconnect unexpectedly.
    • When disconnecting the headset, most of the time the disconnection hangs for about 10 seconds before successfully disconnecting. This only started happening around the same time as the stuttering
    • Sometimes when pressing the connect button from the Bluetooth & other devices menu in Settings it will not attempt to connect (The button is grayed-out for a split second before returning to its original state)
    • Around the same time as the issue first appeared, automatic connect when the headset is powered on didn't seem to work consistently anymore.

    Bluetooth audio stuttering

    Hi, Nathan Haislip

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

If you are experiencing Bluetooth audio stuttering issues with your headsets on Windows 11, here are some additional steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem:

    1. Update Bluetooth Drivers: Even if you didn't find any driver updates through the regular update process, you can manually check the manufacturer's website for your laptop model to download and install the latest Bluetooth drivers.
    2. Disable Exclusive Mode: Settings > System > Sound > More sound settings > Playback > Properties > Advanced tab and uncheck the boxes under "Exclusive Mode" to allow applications to take exclusive control of the device.
    3. Reset Bluetooth Cache:
      • Open Command Prompt as an administrator and run the following commands:

      • This will reset the Bluetooth service and clear the cache. Restart your laptop afterward.

Apart from that, you can also consider the impact of signal interference, signal strength aspects on Bluetooth quality, and you can even consider buying a new Bluetooth transceiver (which is not expensive as far as I know).

If none of these steps resolve the Bluetooth audio stuttering issue, it's possible that there may be a compatibility issue or hardware problem. In such cases, reaching out to the manufacturer's support team for further assistance might be necessary to diagnose and fix the issue.
