That's what always happens whenever I play games or iTunes. And when I plug it again, the audio stops working. Do I really always have to restart the program to fix the sound? It's frustrating. Isn't the sound supposed to come out of the laptop speakers right after unplugging the headphone?

  3. no sound in headphones

    Hi Mary,

If your headphones stops working in Windows devices, you can try solutions below to fix the problem. The issue can be caused by incorrect sound settings, faulty audio drivers, etc. We suggest that you follow below simple instructions to troubleshoot the
    problem.

    • Check if the sound is muted. If it is muted, the headphone won’t have sound.
    • Check the connection. Try unplugging the headphone and firmly plug it back in.
    • Check the port. If you are using a USB headphone, try a different USB port.
    • Try the headphone on another computer. Use your headphone on another computer. If it doesn’t work on that computer, the headphone might be broken. In that case, you need to replace it with a new one.

We're just here if you have further questions.

    Regards.

Audio not working after unplugging headphones

Hi, my audio works good on speakers and on headphones until I unplug the headphones jack. At that point all the sound stops working. I can't get audio from the speakers nor the headphones even if I plug the headphones back . However, I do am able to get
audio through Bluetooth. Also audio seems to be working again after the computer goes to sleep and I log back in. I tried the sound troubleshooter but it detects no issues. I also looked at my Registry Keys in
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Control Panel/Sound. The Beep Key is set to
yes, the Extended Sounds Key is also set to
yes, and the Default data value is
    (value not set).

More on the system, the machine is a Dell XPS15 9560 with Dual Boot Windows10/Ubuntu 18.04 Recently I had the motherboard replaced. After that I had no audio, so I reinstalled the Realtek Audio drivers. After that I was able to get audio to work but now
this issue is showing up. I also have a similar issue in the Ubuntu partition. In Ubuntu, audio stops working once I connect the headphones jack.

I think that since this issue shows up on both operating systems, this hints at a potential Hardware related issue? Please advice on how to proceed with a fix.

    Thanks.
