Windows 10: Audio Problem - Youtube and volume adjustment only. They sound distorted.

Tried 2 browsers, no external devices on Dell Inspirion. Sounds from other websites and itunes are normal. Updated chrome and checked for flash player updates. I believe it started with an update several days ago. This laptop came with Windows 10 and upgraded via offer to Windows 11.

This is where I'm at on my HP laptop with Windows 10 and the Anniversary update.

I completed step #3 "hardware and sound" but that took me to an option for "sound, speakers." There was no "properties" as step #4 suggests. I selected "sound, speakers" and then found "properties." After selecting "properties" there was no "enhancements
tab" as step #5 suggests.

Regardless, I then uninstalled the realtek audio driver. I noticed that when I did this without restarting my laptop that the sound was now tinny, but not distorted as it was previously. After restarting, the sound was again full, yet distorted.

Realtek still shows in my programs list, though it shows no memory is used.

Distorted Sound

Hi Zaki,

Distorted sound can be be produces if there is an issue with the hardware or software. Please answer the following questions for us to narrow down this concern:

• Is it affecting all music, videos, and online videos?
• Which sound card is set to default? Realtek High Definition Audio or High Definition Audio Device? You will know it by typing
  "sound" on the search box and select Sound, under Playback, the default speaker should have a check.

Please run Playing Audio Troubleshooter by following these steps:

• Type "troubleshooting" on the search box.
• Select Troubleshooting on the result.
• Click View all.
• Choose Playing Audio and follow the steps.

Audio crackling/distortion at lower volumes

Ever since I've had Windows 10 I've had a problem with the sound that has been accentuated with new headphones and while I find discussions about effects, equalization and Windows 10 problems, I cannot find a fix for this particular behavior.

The symptom is that the lower sounds are heard suddenly louder, or from a certain low volume, all that is higher becomes dimmer, and the consequence is that between both volume ranges there is an intermediate range in which the machine does whatever it does for this effect and the sound at that point is distorted, like mixed with interference.

With relatively loud and stable music there's no problem, but with anything else that is heard lower or at intervals, something as simple as a dialogue is insufferable.

I tried to change the configuration of the headphones from the windows sound options as well as the Sonic Studio that came installed, but it had no effect. Not even removing and setting the loudness equalization fixes this.

EDIT: Since it's been put on hold as too broad I'll try to add detail. The audio device shows as Realtek High Definition Audio and the distortion gets worse and over a broader volume range if I set the system volume low and the headphones' high. If someone knows at least what this effect is, how the lower volume sounds higher and viceversa, if it has a name, I'd appreciate it and might be able to search better because it kind of feels like an effect and not an actual hardware problem except for the distortion
