Windows 10: Audio Problems Dell XPS 15 with Windows 10

Hey everyone,

Recently I’ve been having quite a few issues with my Dell XPS 15 Windows 10 Laptop. It’s a little older than 1.5 years.

First, About two months ago, my laptop stopped recognizing my Razer headset microphone. The output was still coming through the headset, but the input was only going through the built in microphone and wouldn’t even give me the option to choose the headset microphone. In my free time I’ve been trying to solve this but haven’t been able to find a solution. If anyone knows how to fix this please let me know.

Second, about a month ago I realized that any Realtek audio inputs/outputs were completely missing from my laptop along with drivers. They were there when I first got the computer but now I can’t seem to find them anywhere. Currently downloading and installing the Realtek drivers from Realtek’s website right now. Is this the right way to go about this? If not, what should I do?

Lastly, if I can’t fix any of the above problems, do you think a Windows 10 reset (I would do the “keep my files” option rather than the full factory reset) would fix this issue? Also, the “keep my files” option would keep things like word documents, pictures, etc but delete Microsoft Word, Spotify, Steam, or any other application, correct?

Dell XPS 15 audio problems with driver_power_state_failure BSODs

I had a similar issue. Everytime I SHUT DOWN my DELL XPS 15 9550 and switched it on again (NO RESTART) there was no sound. Only a REBOOT/RESTART could solve the issue.

However, I removed the AUDIO DRIVER completley and downloaded it again from the DELL website to install it again seemed to have solved this issue.

I suggest you follow the below method.



Method 1: I suggest you to run the hardware and device troubleshooter
to check and fix issues with hardware and devices.
Refer these steps:

• Press Windows key +X, select Control panel.
• Click on troubleshooting and click on the
  view all option on the left panel.
• Run the Hardware and devices troubleshooter.
  

Method 2: Update the touchscreen drivers manually from the Device manager by following the steps below and check if the issue is resolved.

1.Press Windows logo + X keys on the keyboard and select
Device manager from the context menu.

2.Expand Human Interface Device option, right click on the touchscreen driver and select Update this software from the context menu.

3.Follow the on-screen instructions.
