Windows 10: Authenticator Code not working on new computer.

Trying to used authentication code through mobile but computer keeps saying code is incorrect. Have tried multiple times making sure not to enter the 8-digit code incorrectly. Logged in through email and it sent the first stage to authentication app. This is the first time booting up this computer. Please help, this has been beyond frustrating.

Go to

At the top choose Security and Privacy

Under Account Security choose More Security Settings

Scroll down for the following

Your account is protected by two-step verification.

• Turn off two-step verification
  

You've set up an authenticator app.
Learn more about identity verification apps.

Before you can set up an identity verification app, you need to add another phone number or alternate email address, or verify an existing one.

• Set up identity verification app
  
• Turn off existing apps

Choose Set Up identity verification app which will give you the barcode/secret code you need to get your authenticator app going.

Be sure to verify the pairing was successful by entering the code generated on the newly setup app.

2 step-authentication with app password not working

Just to be clear, after enabling 2-step authentication on my account, Chronos Calendar was unable to sync (which was expected). I went to the web page to create an app password, did a copy of the code, went back to Chronos Calendar, paste the code in
the password field. But I got the error that I can't get authenticated. I tried several times, removing the password, creating a new one, enter it manually or by copy/paste: same problem. So I removed the 2-step authentication and everything is now back to
normal.
