Windows 10: Automatic execution change after updating to new build..

Hello, before the update, when i plugged my WD Passport hard drive, it would ask me if i want to launch the autorun (which is the app to unlock drive encryption); then would open the unlocked drive in exporer. After the update, it doesn't ask me anything anymore *Sad

So i gotta open explorer & then go inside the drive (double clic it won't even launch the unlock app!!) and launch this app manually, then manually go to the drive.. Really annoying! How can i make 10 behave like it did before this update (which brings only good apart that)?

Then how to force Windows 10 to apply our Group Policy or Registry changes? Its actually very simple!
You just need to click on "Check for updates" button in Windows Update.

As soon as you click on the button, Windows will immediately apply the changes.

So you need to let Windows Update check for new updates at least once after you make changes in Group Policy Editor or Registry Editor.

I have checked for updates but nothing new seems to be available.. im on the latest updates and build.

As for method 2, it reported no problems, the test was executed successfully.

 

Plugged it in another 10 machine (this one was intalled from a recent iso so didn't had to upgrade) and it works there.. So i dunno what went wrong really, hope someone will know..

 

Can you unlock it in that other machine and use same program on first one to lock it again ?

 

Actually it's just locked again when you power it off/disconnect it. What are you thinking?

 

Which program did you use for locking it, Bitlocker from Windows ?

 

Hi, part of the question appears associated with autoplay. Does Autoplay work for any device?

I appreciate you have another issue about unlocking your drive, and can't comment on that.

 

Autoplay work for ALL devices but this one..! It's built-in hardware encryption by western digital.

 

Did you try to reset settings for Autoplay ?

Assuming the update you are referring to is the November TH2 big upgrade, whatever was there to support your device may have been adversely affected. Some software has been.

 

The software is integrated to the drive, it's totally independent. Somehow, the autorun file is ignored. I disabled antivirus to make sure, no change.

 

Hi, a number of settings were changed as part of the November TH2 upgrade (which shouldn't have been).
For example, all associations (or most) were set back to MS default.

(And other things, like some found system restore had been turned off.. I found Location was off where it had been on...).

I can't suggest anything specific, but you should know that - and perhaps compare settings that could be relevant between the two Win 10 machines, which I'd assume you have been doing.

Random thought.. Is your disk USB2 or USB3? E.g. If USB3, does any other USB3 device also trigger autorun?

I found out! It was some non mandatory driver that win updates installed.. After I uninstall that, autorun is back! Problem is.. Win update will reinstall it quickly..!
