  1. AUTOMATIC REPAIR LOOP AND LAG

Turned on my laptop to find that it was in some automatic repair loop. I shut it off because the computer wouldn't go passed a black screen after telling me it was "Preparing Automatic Repair Loop". I turned it back on and continuously pressed the F11 key because i saw that that would get it to a different screen in order for it to restart. but it just starts up, shows the HP logo and goes to a black screen. I dont mind if i lose everything i just want my computer to work again. I cant pop in a CD like all the solutions keep on mentioning.

    Defender update issue

Thanks for the suggestion. Prior to my original post here I have performed manual checking for updates of Defender and installed the latest version. The one I originally mentioned is still hanging around though. It's a very old update which is no longer
listed on the website. Not sure why I received the notification as it is no longer available from the catalogue on the Microsoft website but my updater keeps trying to find it (hence the loop which is causing the lag) Also I am unable to remove or cancel it
    from the list of updates.

    Thanks for trying

"Windows PC did not start correctly" on loop

I recently installed the latest Windows 10 update and noticed my computer was slower afterwards (computer game would start lagging and alt+tab would take longer to actually switch between game and other apps). I disabled nearly every background app and some startup apps but that didn't fix anything. I then tried a system restore to before the update, but after my computer booted again, it said there was an error. I then tried to revert back to the last Windows version and that's when I started getting the "Windows PC did not start correctly" loop.

The system repair option fails. The system restore option failed and now there isn't a restore date available. The computer reset option failed. Booting into safe mode fails. No matter what I do I can't even get to the log-in screen.

I have tried various command prompt entries including scannow and still nothing.

Any suggestions are appreciated! Or even suggestions as to where I could get help (I just got this PC in July the manufacturer has a 1-year hardware warranty).

    AUTOMATIC REPAIR LOOP AND LAG

Windows\system32\logfiles\srt\SrtTrail.txt - Automatic Repair couldn't repair your PC message

I'm using a Toshiba Satellite laptop which is a couple years old. It is operating on Windows 10 after the automatic upgrade. I got a message three days ago in the Action Center. I cannot remember the exact wording, but it said I needed to reboot to do an
automatic repair. I did that and the laptop spent hours in the "diagnosing your pc" mode. After many hours, I got the message "automatic repair couldn't repair your PC. Press advanced options to try other options to repair your PC or shut down to turn off
you PC. Log file: C:\Windows\system32\logfiles\srt\SrtTrail.txt" Pressing Advanced Options gave me the options "Continue - Exit and continue to Windows 10", "Use a Device - use a USB drive, network connection or WIndows recovery DVD", and "Troubleshoot - reset
your PC or see advanced options." When I choose "Continue", it sends me back into the same loop. When I select "Troubleshoot", my choices are "Reset this PC", "Toshiba maintenance utility", and Advanced options". When I selected "Reset this PC", the screen
changed color and nothing else happened. I did a hard shutdown and am now back to the same loop.

Before I got the original message, I noticed a lag time when using Outlook. It would take at least a second or two before an email would close. There was also a lag time closing files in Excel and Word. A particular online game would hang up and need restarting
to proceed, but I was ablt to open other search windows without any problem. At least a month ago, I made a change to a system file to disable tapping on the touchpad because the Elan "options" didn't affect tapping - i.e., tapping was not checked, but continued
    to operate.

At this point, I want to know if there is any way I can back up certain files to an external hard drive before I try any more of the suggested advanced options.
