Windows 10: Automatic Repair Loop, but only when restarting

So I have a problem.

My computer has been pretty finicky for years, but last night I've had to deal with a particularly annoying issue.

My computer crashed out of the blue (this is normal behaviour for it) so I decided I would just restart it. However since then, whenever it restarts, it's been stuck in an automatic repair loop. It says my PC didn't restart correctly, but it couldn't diagnose the problem. I've managed to figure out how to escape it (disable device driver signature enforcement) which allows me to boot back into Windows 10, but whenever it crashes (not uncommon) and restarts, it restarts into the Automatic Repair loop once more. I've run chkdsk for both my C and D drives and they've come up clean every time. No errors found.

Also what's weird; the logfile that's created is apparently stored on my E drive? I mean the SrtTrail.txt. I've tried to access it via cmd, multiple times, to no avail. Either it tells me the directory cannot be accessed, or that the device is not ready. My E drive is a pretty standard DVD drive and as of this moment it's empty. Any advice on how to access the file so I can see what's messing up? My main issue is to ensure I can escape the automatic repair loop, though. That's priority #1.

Your concern regarding the device going into an Automatic Repair Loop can be caused by change on its settings/configuration or broken system files. To effectively assist you with your concern, can confirm if you've made any changes on your device prior to
your concern?

As an initial step to get back into the normal Windows screen, we suggest that you perform a
Startup repair. The repair will attempt to fix any broken components/files which may prevent your device from booting properly. To do this, follow the steps below:

• On theAutomatic Repair screen, select Advanced options.
• Select Troubleshoot.
• Select Advanced options.
• Select Startup Repair.

Automatic Repair Loop Continued Woes


The automatic repair loop might be caused by the following issues:

• filesystem corruption
• corrupt MBR or BCD

Here are the steps I generally recommend to fix automatic repair boot loops:

Use Check Disk Utility

Fix Boot and Rebuild BCD via Command Prompt

Restore Windows Registry

Delete the Problematic File

Disable Automatic Startup Repair

Check Device Partition and OsdevicePartition

Perform Refresh or Reset Your PC
