  2. n8 wont connect automatically to wlan

OK, today it is working. I wish I could offer the OP a reason, but I don't know why because I have tried so many things. I rebooted the router, installed service pack for Anna, added wlan as a destination on internet connectivity setting and made it priority
1, tried many other connectivity settings (and put them back again). It now connects to wlan automatically when I launch internet. This works in offline mode as Greycounciller suggested, but also in other modes. One thing that did confuse me late last night
was that the wlan 'active' symbol kept changing to inactive right after manual connection, and I assumed it was losing the connection, but then I did some more searching on the Nokia site, and realised that at this point in my sleep deprived state, I had no
open applications that needed the internet, and it is meant to drop the connection. Duhhh

My suspicion is the router may have been issue here, because by coincidence my android tablet and 1 of the other laptops experienced wlan connection issues shortly after I got the N8, although the other laptops and phones were working fine, and it will be
interesting to see what happens when the family is back in house and it has 4 mobiles and 4 laptops confusing it, so maybe a combination of making the wlan the priority 1 internet destination and rebooting the router?

Greycounciller, how do you remove destinations from the list? My wlan is listed twice now, as I added it to internet destinations as suggested, when it was already listed under 'uncategorised', which is presumably where it was autostored when I first added
the wlan? I have 1 WAP service destination (Orange) and this 1 'uncategorised' as well as my 3 internet destinations.

    UNWANTED auto-connection to WLAN

    Dear farby,

Thank you for your suggestions, and apologies for my delay in replying. Poor health.

I have tried each of the suggested solutions, but still do not have the wanted result.

    • WLAN connection deleted and reconfigured. While the WLAN was absent, the provider internet connection began self-connection just as the WLAN had done.
      • On reconfiguring the WLAN, both it and the provider internet connection began self-connecting.
    • On re-setting the factory settings, as soon as boot completed, internet connection was requested. On dismissal of request, WLAN self-connected as before.

It would seem that something really wants to get out onto the web, or maybe the 'phone is just 'phoning home.

    Please help.

Windows WLAN Service: Regular ping spikes on a stable WLAN connection

    Hi,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

First Verify if the WLAN service is started and set to automatic, if the WLAN service is stopped, I would suggest you to start the service and put it to automatic.

Step 1: Please follow the steps to
    start the WLAN service.

    • Click on Start, type in services.msc
      and press Enter.

    • Select WLAN Autoconfig from the list, Right click properties

    • Change the startup type to Automatic.

    • Click on Start button.

    • Click on Apply, Ok.
Restart the computer and verify if it works.

Also check if all the dependencies are also running. Try the steps to check Dependencies.

    • Right-click on WLAN Autoconfig and select Properties.

    • Click on Dependencies, you will find all the dependency services under box labeled this service depends on the following system components.
Step 2: If still you are facing issues, then
    uninstall and reinstall the drivers

    • Click start.

    • Type devmgmt.msc in Start
      Search.

    • In Network adapter you will find the device, right click on it and select the option
      uninstall.

    • Restart the computer and check reinstalling the drivers.
