Automatically being connected to Wi-Fi from Sleep mode in Windows 10

Situation: When my computer awakens from the Sleep mode, it automatically searches and connects to my Wi-Fi system. I do not want my computer to stay connected to the Wi-Fi. My routine is to connect to the Wi-Fi system (2 speeds – 2.4 and 5.0), conduct my business on the internet, close out and disconnect from the Wi-Fi. When I do leave the PC or stop working, the computer ultimately goes into the Sleep mode (set for 30 minutes). Then upon awaking, it then connects to the Wi-Fi. The respective speeds do not appear to contribute or cause the problem because I have removed both of them and added one back and the problem manifests itself. I can delete the one and add the other with the same results.

This problem seems to have started after the Creator update. It seems to have progressively gotten worse. I used Windows 7 prior to installing Windows 10, and had no problems. When I did start using Windows 10, I didn’t have any problems as I have described. Prior to the Creator update, I would disconnect from the Wi-Fi, and it would remain disconnected coming out of Sleep. The OS is Windows 10 64-Bit Home edition, version 1803, and OS build 17134.286. My computer is up to date with the latest Windows 10 update (1803-09) as of this date. My Wi-Fi is the Netgear Nighthawk AC1900 Smart Wi-Fi Router with a NetGear Nighthawk A7000 Wi-Fi USB Adapter (external antenna) via an USB 3.0 port. It works with 802.11 a/b/g/n and ac devices.

I have judiciously check the respective settings to make sure the Network and Internet Settings are unchecked regarding “Automatically connecting when it range”. I also have unchecked the “Connect automatically when in range” box under “Manage known networks” under “Settings à Wi-Fi2”.

Additionally, I moved residences and as a result of the position of the router, I require the NetGear USB adapter for connection. At the other residence, I used an ASUS micro USB connection.

Thus far, my only solution has been to either turn the computer off when I complete my work or leave it turned on, but not connected to the Wi-Fi system.

    :)

Windows 10 stop automatically connecting to random new wi-fi networks

    Hi,

I have searched a lot, but all the tutorials I found only explained how to not connect automatically to a known wi-fi network or how to disable wi-fi sense... but this is not what I am looking for...

    PROBLEM:

    • When my laptop (Windows 10 Pro X64) is not connected to a network and the wireless adapter is on, it will automatically connect to any random new unsecured wi-fi network... The only way I have now to avoid this is to disable my wi-fi adapter.

UNUSEFUL TUTORIALS I FOUND ON THE INTERNET:

    • How to manually uncheck the option for a particular wi-fi network not to connect automatically in Network Properties. This is not what I am looking for. This would suggest that everytime I power my computer. I would have to manually go through all the available wi-fi networks and unclick them all...
    • How to disable Wi-Fi Sense. This is not useful, because I don't even have a Wi-Fi sense option in my computer where the tutorials say it should be.

    EXPECTED BEHAVIOR:

    • I am looking for an option to tell my computer to stop connecting randomly to unknown wi-fi networks like an hyperactive, reckless idiot.

    PERSONAL COMMENT:

    • Honestly, why would any respectable company think that it could be somewhat wise or secure to do this... Anyone's computer could just randomly connect to any hacker's wi-fi network without the user even knowing it...

Any solutions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

    Wi-Fi Connection After Sleep Mode

When the computer wakens from sleep mode it connects to Wi-Fi, although "Settings" shows that "Connect automatically when in range" is off. I must turn the Wi-Fi connect off manually.

    Automatic Connection To Wi-Fi

When my PC wakes up, the Wi-Fi connects automatically even though “Connect automatically when in range” is off. This happens even if the PC was disconnected from the Wi-Fi before it went into sleep mode. How can the automatic connection be stopped?
