Automatically Mirror Files from Windows to a Network Drive

How do I automatically mirror files from a hard disk drive to a network folder?

In this case I want to mirror the contents of an entire disk containing photos (no system files) to a shared folder on an OpenMediaVault server running on my home network.

This is separate from the regular backup of the rest of my system which is done with backup software. For the contents of this disk, I don't want them compressed into a backup container file. I want them to be exact duplicates of the original files, kept up to date in that shared network location (login required).

Also, it doesn't matter if they update in real time. Once a day is fine, for example.

    :)

  3. Can't copy files from a Network drive to C:\Program Files (x86)

I would call this a "strategic" way of saying "we just don't know" Automatically Mirror Files from Windows to a Network Drive :) I think you might have been more helpful just admitting that than sending us to a link with 50+ different subjects on the same page and making it a headache to find the answer.

Have you looked into the File History function built into windows?

I thought that tool used its own format as opposed to making exact copies of the files. I want other users to be able to view the photos on the network location.

Well anyway, File History is already busy tracking my user folder, documents, etc.

I want to keep the contents of this drive completely separate from that, saved to its own network folder. As far as I know File History can't be configured to do both on the same Win10 machine.

    Thanks, whs.

I actually saw that link in my initial research... but the article is 8 years old and since we're three generations of Windows past that time I figured it was too stale to be of much use today.

The sync programs will probably still work. But you can always look for one that fits your OS.

SyncToy from Microsoft? It's old but still works under Windows 10.

I use Mirror Folder for this. Not free ($39 US) but an excellent program. I have one folder that I sync to two places, a different disk on the same computer and via Lan to a different computer.
