AV Preventing Win 10 Ver 1709 Update Install

I am having trouble installing ver 1709 of Win 10. I get an error message part way through installation. The previous owner had
Trend Micro Internet Security 2007 installed and had removed it with Windows uninstaller. I have run ALL the Trend
Micro uninstallers and manually deleted the folders in appdata and program data. Also I ran a registry search looking
for remnants , deleting what I found. I don't see any services running that are Trend Micro. Does anyone have a suggestion on
    what to try next ?

    TIA

    Dave

    :)

How do you know that Trend Micro is the culprit? What error message is the installer emitting when the upgrade quits?

    Welcome to TenForums @Dave46

How are you trying to upgrade to 1709? There are several possibilities: the Upgrade Assistant, the Media Creation Tool's 'upgrade now' option, or a manual in-place upgrade using the ISO or USB install media (you can make this using the MCT's 'create media for another PC' option).

Using install media to do an in-place upgrade has generally been found to be the most reliable method. Should that fail too it give far more detailed error codes than the others, enabling further diagnosis.

Thanks for all the suggestions !

I tried Revo but because the previous owner deleted Trend Micro, Revo could not help.

I am trying to upgrade via Windows update. The previous version of Ten is already installed.

    From Bree:
" Using install media to do an in-place upgrade has generally been found to be the most reliable method."

Bree, can I keep the installed programs using this method ? I have the ISO for a repair install

The error message I receive is from Windows installer. The download goes OK, but when it tries to install
the first error message is " There are some problems, click OK to fix ". After clicking OK it tries to install
but fails part way through with the error message " Windows is unable to install due to Trend Micro Internet
    Security 2007".

Thanks for all the help guys !!

Yes, you can keep all your installed programs and user files. In File Explorer, double-click on the ISO file to mount it, then run the Setup.exe you'll find on the virtual DVD to start the upgrade. It's always a sensible precaution to make backups or (preferably) a system image before any major upgrade.

It does sound like your problem is you haven't found and removed every last trace *Sad You're not alone in this, see the Trend Micro forum...,

Bree , thanks for your info !!

I looked at the Trend Micro link and saw some good info there. I'll try that approach first and then go the repair install route, if needed.

    You've been a big help !
