Windows 10: Avast Using 100% CPU at Idle

Yesterday, I decided to install Avast on my computer. I turned it on this this morning and, noticed my Core i5 5200U CPU was unusable (On YouTube videos would randomly freeze and over 3/4 of the frames were being dropped). I opened task manager and saw that my CPU was pinned to 100% by avast. I have tried rebooting my computer but the CPU is still pinned. Does anyone know how to fix this??

Its ok i found the solution, seems something changed in the power settings after recent update

I simply reset all power plans back to default

Tell us more about your concern. Has it always been like this before? Do you notice any change in terms of performance? Review this

article and check if it will make a difference. Specifically, adjust the performance of Windows and check if the issue replicates.
Also, performing
clean boot might be able to isolate the issue.

• 
  In Search tab of the Start menu, type Adjust the appearance and performance of Windows and press Enter.

  Go to Advanced tab and click Change in the Virtual
  memory section.
  
• 
  At the top, uncheck the box right before Automatically manage paging file size for all drives option.
  
• 
  Select drive C: (or the drive where Windows 10 is installed).
  
• 
  Select Custom size: by ticking its radio button, and change the Initial size (MB) and Maximum size (MB) to the recommended value that you will
  find just below; on the Total paging file size for all drivers section.
  

Remember: Changing paging file size into larger than which was recommended by Windows is not going to be helpful.

I've used Avast for quite a long time and not seen it do anything like that. You could also try Avast's forum if still in difficulty.

 

I had this issue on a friends computer. I went into safe mode and just got rid of it solved all the problems.
