I fully agree on AVAST being too bloated and it claims to work, but I've noticed it
don't. It's just not worth the extra drama. I feel the same with AVG as well. Back in the beginning; you could download something decent off the web, for free and it worked and did not give ya a virus. Now you'll be lucky not to get a Trojan every time you download a new program. This is why it's so important to really figure out whats best for you and your system no matter what, the reviews and such say.

I lost a lot of data last month because of the virus. Need advice on whether to buy a one year package for Avast or Defender. I personally appreciate Defender

Whoa, I was not made aware of that until now. Thanks for the update.

    Liaronado,
First "Welcome to Windows 10 Forums!"
If your wanting defender It comes with the windows system, I don't think you need to buy a 1 year package for that. You just need to *Activate it* if it's now already running by default. Anyone can correct me; if things have changed. I would get a External Hard-rive when can, to back up files, just in case.

A lot of us on the forum use a combination of Defender and Malwarebytes (either free or license).

Also a proper backup regimen is a must these days. Consider that your priority.

  6. Avast has turned into a bloated ad filled mess. Defender works well for me and an occasional scan of Malwarebytes.

Been using Avast for the last about 10 years, and of course I decide to do a full scan today, and it finds false positive in desktop.ini file in Windows 10 Here

    results from virus total lol

About to rip it out tomorrow, and start using Defender full time, whats next it finds an infection in some other system file lol
