  1. Avoid "bong" when adjusting the volume slider on Windows 10

    When I adjust the volume slider with the mouse or arrow keys, there is always "bong" sound. It is very intrusive. I am adjusting the slider based on the volume of the music to optimize concentration. Every single adjustment is followed by a very loud "BONG". Not only is it jarring, but it makes it hard to get the right volume for the study tune. Is there any way to disable this BONG?

    As a workaround, use a AutoHotKey script to control the volume. Here's a sample script.

    ; Adjust Windows Volume:

    ^+NumpadAdd::

    SoundGet, volume

    Send {Volume_Up}

    SoundSet, volume + 2

    Return

    ^+NumpadSub::

    SoundGet, volume

    Send {Volume_Down}

    SoundSet, volume - 2

    Return

    • Install AutoHotKey
    • Using Notepad, create a script file from the above contents.
    • Save it as volume.ahk.
    • Place volume.ahk in your Startup folder.
    • Double-click volume.ahk to run it.
    To increase the volume, press Ctrl & Shift & + (in the numeric keypad)

    To decrease the volume, press Ctrl & Shift & - (in the numeric keypad)

    As far as I know, the only way to disable the volume slider sound is to set "Default Beep" to None. But "Default Beep" is also used by other events; it's not exclusive to the volume slider.

    Right-click Start, click Run.

    Type mmsys.cpl and click OK.

    Click on the Sounds tab.

    Set "Default Beep" to None.
