Windows 10: Back Up: Seekinf information about Windows File History and/or third-party alternatives

Hello! I use a service to backup my data in Windows 10 to the Cloud but want to supplement this by transferring files, regularly and in an orderly fashion to an external HDD. My previous experiences with this seemingly simple task have been a bit problematic. I have bought external, portable HDDs that try and impose their own nasty software so that it becomes indispensable to both backup and recovery; I don't want to do that. I also don't want to deal with "imaging", which I do not understand fully but, regardless, I want to keep things simple and just copy across a selection of data files

How to delete files from file history .

Let’s try with the below steps and check if he issue resolves

• Enter File History settings in the search box, and then tap or click File History settings.
• Tap or click Select a drive, and choose the network or external drive you want to use.
  
• Turn on File History.

You go to the location where file history is saved and delete the file if you want to do so.

Note: check the locations included for file history and check if there is third party back up in any of these locations. Removing file history completely won't affect your system image that you have already created.

Event 202 File History Core- Users\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\File History\Cofiguration\Config

Please provide us more information to help you better:

  Have you lost any files?
  
• 
  Have you made any changes to the PC prior to this issue?
  

I suggest you to copy the event log error and send us the information to help you better.

Steps:

1. In the Search bar type Event Viewer and press
Enter.

2. In the right side pane you get Windows logs and in that select
application.

3. Please click on the specific error and right click on it and then select copy as text.

4. Go to the notepad and paste it.



Meanwhile I suggest you to try the following steps and check if it helps.

Reselect the Backup Disk under File History Control Panel:

1. Turn it off in the File History control panel

2. Close the control panel

3. Go to your File History directory C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\FileHistory and set aside the Data and Configuration directories (Check the event for the exact directory location)

4. Open File History Control Panel.

5. Reselect the backup disk and apply/save the changes.

File History not backing up any files

Thank you for the response. I had already checked that thread, but it hasn't helped me:

• The thread deals with Windows 8's implementation of File History, which is somewhat different to that of Windows 10.
• Most of the thread deals with setting up File History (which I have already done, precisely following the recommended steps). The third link in the thread might have been useful since it appears to link to a page that deals with troubleshooting File History
  (as opposed to setting it up), but unfortunately the link is dead.

Any further suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
