    Hello Jack, *Smile

Did you perform a "Windows Backup", "File History", "System Image", or used some 3rd party backup program?

Thanks for your quick reply. After using win 7 for ages I am still a bit of a novice with this recently downloaded Win 10.
In this case I used the File History option and presumed I was sending it to a portable hard drive via a USB connection. On Checking I cannot file any folder or file that appears to be the back up.

File History saves your files in the Data folder in the selected local or network drive at the location below if needed to manually copy and paste them back to restore.

    (selected drive letter)\File History\(user-name)\(computer-name)\Data\C\Users

File History - Restore Previous File Versions in Windows 8

    Hope this helps. *Smile

File History is not a full backup from which you could restore your system. IF that is what you want, you need to use a different option -- but since I don't use MS backup options, I don't know which one to suggest.

My own preference is using Macrium Reflect (MR) which provides a FREE version that can be used to image and restore partitions or entire drives.
What I recommend is the following:
    1) Download and install Macrium Reflect (MR)
    2) Run MR and choose the option: "Create an image of the partition(s) required to backup and restore Windows" to write a full backup to an external drive
    3) Use the option to create a boot USB stick or CD

NOW, you have the means to restore a full working system from the external drive in only a few minutes.

Mark, OK, and I believe I just did all that here (using an additional 1tb backup drive, MR, and put it on a dvd that is supposed to be bootable (bootable rescue media, ISO file on it). .. I am just trying to do what it says about and I am using my MR Trialk version to do it. Cliff M.

First time user of Marium today....

Well yesterday, I download the trial version of Macrium, and today decided to try using it. I have a 1tb backup system that was not being using and it has a 931 mb drive in it. When trying macrium I just wanted to try cloning my Drive C; 931mb ,
so today I used the Macrium software to clone (copy) my Drive C: Windows 10 system to the Drive G: (formatted). I sestup all the parameter as for the cloning and told it OK.

It did all the cloning in 51 minutes, and please see the attached graphic showing. I clones c: to g:

at least now - I know it all works for me, and I looked at all several of the files on G that were cloned.

I did this today... Cliff M.
