Windows 10: Background -> Picture sees images, Bacground -> Slideshow does not

I Have had problems with Background settings for a long time. Now it is worse than ever since the cummulative December update using Windows 10 Pro.

I want to use slideshow picking random images from a random folder in a folder hierarchy like giving the computers Picture Library as a path to which images to use. My folder hierarchy is large. I have many thousands of image files organised this way by Adobe Lightroom. I want slideshow to pick images randomly from them.


The Slideshow does not see images in the folders. Trying to pick a single folder with a few images does not help. Using "picture" as background on the same folder finds the images - and I can pick one.


I can not put a master catalog as image address in the slideshow, this worked ferfectly in windows 7 and 8 - but not in Windows 10 .


As an alternative option and windows 1o gives som eindications that this is possible - I could live with the option to make a list of folders to look for images in , but this does not work either.

1. Can you outline the troubleshooting steps that you have performed to fix the issue?

2. Does the issue occur with other images as well or only the one saved in the desktop?

For now, I suggest that you follow the steps below to change the slideshow option and check.

1. Go to the Settings application

2. Click on Personalization, select Picture from that top dropdown

If the above did not help, change the background picture that you have set and check.

Desktop Background Slideshow - Change fit based on image dimensions

Windows 10 includes a lot of personalization settings where users can change their desktop background, colors, lock screen background, and the like. About your query, the fitting of your slideshow images depends on the size or dimension of each picture.

• In the search type as ‘Settings’ and click on it.
• Select ‘Personalization’, under ‘Background’ option select as ‘Picture’.
• Under ‘Choose your picture’ select any picture accordingly or you can browse the picture from your computer.
