    Background updates after fresh install?

A week or two ago I had to reinstall my Windows. Since then I am slowed down by frequent 99% CPU because System interrupts are hogging CPU time. My System interrupts have a 'Very high' Power usage. When I switch to another program I am staring at the screen while nothing happens. I am making a System Image to be on the safe side and that is taking forever and a bit. Playing an online game is near impossible, I can log in, but not open one of the worlds to play in.

On the forum of that game I am told the following:

"What you may be suffering from is that 'Windows' is still running updates on the background until all hardware is updated to this very day. 'ALL' these updates have to be installed first as that could be one of the reasons why your system is getting extremely laggy."

Is it possible to perform the updates as the sole activity until all updates are completed? At the moment I can't do anything, so I might as well observe progress of the updates.

    :)

  2. Background applications

    Hi Robert,

We understand that you don't want some apps to run on the background of your computer. What we suggest is to
control which apps are allowed to run in the background. To see which apps have permission, just follow the below steps:

    • Open the Start menu or Start screen and select “Settings.”
    • Click or tap the “Privacy” icon in the Settings.
    • Scroll down to the bottom of the list and select “Background apps.”
    • You’ll see a list of apps that have permission to run in the background with an “On/Off” toggle.
Just bear in mind that, apps normally run in the background to update their live tiles, download new data, and receive notifications. If you want an app to continue performing these functions, you should allow it to continue running in
    the background.

Feel free to update us with the results.

  3. Fresh install, Win Update issue

I've just done this on several computers at work. There is a download from Microsoft that will help with the initial update after a fresh install! Give me a sec. and I'll find the name:

    Windows6.1-KB3102810-x64.msu

I think if you just search for the KB3102810 part you will find it online somewhere. It's just slightly more than 3 MB in size. We waited over an hour with one of the processor cores pegged with nothing happening. This was on a fresh install of Win 7 64-bit SP1 and we were just trying to get the very first update (the one before the massive ~1 GB of updates)

I never saw a .msu before but it runs just like an executable. It will still take a few minutes after you have that patch installed for the update to run but you won't be waiting forever like before.

  4. Background updates after fresh install?

After installing the updates, desktop background pictures dissapeared.

    Hi Lucky,

Thank you for posting the query on Microsoft Community. I am glad to assist you on this.

This type of issue might occur because of some missing, corrupt or damaged files in your system.

Initially, I suggest you to try the below method and later you can try to set the desktop background and check.

Method 1: I suggest you to run System File Checker, which will check your system for missing, corrupt or damaged files and attempt to fix them.

Please refer the article on “How to run System File Checker” and check if that helps.

    https://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833/en-gb

    Method 2: DISM:

If no corrupted system files were found in the previous state, then I suggest you to try the following steps:

    • Open command prompt by pressing Windows key + X and selecting “Command prompt admin”.

    • In command prompt, type the following commands and press Enter after each command:

      DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth

      DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

    • Close the command prompt and restart the PC and check if it works.
Now, follow the below steps to set desktop background.

    • Right click on your desktop background and click on Personalize.
    • Click on Background list box and select pictures.

Kindly let us know if you need any further assistance with Windows. We are glad to assist you.

    Thank you.
