Windows 10: Backup and Restore Windows 7 utility file access.

I recently had a Win 11 box crash. The SSD drive spiked and is not inaccessible. While the machine was working, I was using the Backup and Restore Windows 7 utility to back up a critical file. I can no longer access that back up through the original computer due to its failure. My attempts to access it through other computers, using the same utility, have not worked. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Backup utility

Cobian backup will do file backups locally or to ftp, with or without encryption and compression. However it doesn't do image backups, which is really what you need if want to fully restore your system.

I've used the W7 back up program and Acronis a few times to restore a system and both work great. With Acronis though, you need to burn the recovery cd they suggest FOR EACH and EVERY machine you use it on.

One problem with W7 backup is that seems to break easily. On one machine I did an upgrade re-install and the backup utility doesn't work. No luck in trouble shooting it either. So I now rely on Acronis exclusively for image backups. But I use Cobian for file backups to ftp.

 

Will a Windows 10 backup using backup/restore utility be able to be restored on Windows 7 Operating System

I was running Windows 7 and had my data backed up using the Windows Backup/Restore utility program.

Then Windows 10 installed on my computer and during the evaluation period I have accumulated more files that I would like to keep before I switch back to Windows 7 ( Windows 7 seems so much better to me )

The thing is, In Windows 10, when I go to Backup/Restore and try to backup my files to the same Backup/Restore Drive location it complains about the fact that they were backed up using Windows 7 and wants me to copy them to a different location
which makes me nervous about using Backup/Restore program between Windows 7 and 10. ( I don't want to lose the data I have acquired during my Windows 10 evaluation.

So the question is, if I back up my new data using the Windows 10 Backup/Restore utility
then Reinstall Windows 7 and try to restore the data using Windows 7 Backup/Restore utility program, will there be any problems? ( Will Windows 7 complain that the backup is from Windows 10 and not work? )

The main thing is that I just want to make sure what I back up on Windows 10 using the Backup/Restore utility will be recognized and restorable in Windows 7.

Windows 7 backup

Haven't used it but sounds like it based on Backup and Restore Center info found here. Says you can choose what files and folders if you want and also mentions a system image. Quicken has it's own backup option under one of the menus, use that too. I have for my mom and it's a breeze. Just reinstall app and use Restore in Quicken.
