Backup "Create a system image" dialog does not list second hard drive as a target location

The dialog to create a system image in Windows 10 does not list my second hard drive (D: drive, formatted NTFS, not configured as removable storage, does not contain my windows installation) as a target location.

On the Disk management screen, the C: drive I want to back up is listed as a system & boot drive, the D: drive is listed as a plain NTFS drive (no 'page file', 'system' or anything but 'Primary partition' in the brackets).

Because of this, I can not back up my Windows installation as a system image. I noticed the system image dialog does list a USB stick when I insert it. Is the solution to somehow mark my D: drive as 'removable storage' somehow, or is there another reason it does not list my D: drive?

    :)

  2. Saving System Image Backup to External Hard Drive?

    Hello,

It is best to use a blank Hard Drive when creating a System Image Backup, so that it will be easier for you to locate the Backup when needed. If you need a step by step process, here's the

  3. creating system image backup

    Hi,

To better assist you with your concern, please provide the information below:

    • Are you creating the image backup from your computer and saving it to your external hard drive?
    • Does the same issue persist if you save the backup or recovery image directly to the computer?

    Regards.

Backup "Create a system image" dialog does not list second hard drive as a target location

    Failed to create a System Image Backup in windows 10 ( Error Code: 0x807800A1 & 0X800423F3 )

    Hi,

To address your concern, we suggest you try the follow these methods:

Method 1: Run the System File Checker tool.

    • It is a utility in Windows that allows users to scan for corruptions in Windows system files and restore corrupted files.
To run the tool, please click on this
      link
      .
Method 2: Delete the WindowsImageBackup folder.

    • Locate the hidden folder: C:\System Volume Information\
    • Locate and delete WindowsImageBackup (If you want to save your previous backups, you can also move them from WindowsImageBackup to a different folder)
Method 3: Format the external hard drive.

    • If you are trying to create system backup on an external hard drive, you might have to format it beforehand. Before formatting your external hard drive make sure to move any files from it to a safe location.

Method 4: Delete EFI System Partition and Recovery Partition.

    • When you upgrade to Windows 10 or install it on a new hard drive, certain partitions from previous versions of Windows might still be present on your computer causing System Backup to fail. In order to fix this, it’s advised that you remove EFI System Partition
and Recovery Partition. To do that, follow these steps:
    • Press Windows Key + X and select Disk Management from the menu.
    • When Disk Management opens, locate the hard drive on which you wish to store your system backup.
    • You should see EFI System Partition and Recovery Partition for that hard drive in Disk Manager. Delete them both.

Let us know how it goes.
