Windows 10: Backup fails to start with 0x80070002

    Backup fails to start with 0x80070002


    Upgraded my laptop from W7 yesterday. Bup now fails with 0x80070002 because it cannot find the file, very useful. What can I do, besides get a third party program?

    Windows 10 backup setup failure

    Trying to set up windows 10 backup in order to create a system image. Each time I get 'server execution failed' with code 0x80080005.

    Also, Troubleshootinh always fails (immediately) with with error code 0x80070002.

    How can these errors be fixed?

    System Image Backup Failed with error: The backup failed. Windows Backup encountered an error when writing data to the backup target. (0x80780166) & 0x80070002 on Windows 10

    I just installed a new external hard drive on my new Win 10 desktop. I successfully formatted it after some appreciated technical help from Seagate. When I tried to do a System Image to this hard drive through the Control Panel and File History, my new hard
    drive was recognized as a place to save the backup.

    Within a minute after starting the backup, a pop-up appeared on my screen telling me, "The backup failed. Windows Backup encountered an error when writing data to the backup target. (0x80780166). Additional information: The system cannot find the file
    specified. (0x80070002)."

    I then had to abort the procedure.

    Can someone please help me?

    When/where does it fail? At boot, when you login, ??????

    BTW: Your System Specs are awesome. Wish everyone would fill it out with that attention to detail.

    Sorry if I wasn´t clear. It is the Windows Backup that fails. It does not start, just produces this error message.

    Lots of us on here use Macrium Reflect for making complete image backups. Its much more reliable than Windows backup. Plus there is a Free version available. You might want to check it out. Link is below.

    Hi,

    That error can occur when Backup tries to backup files that have been deleted.

    This is a workaround from MS themselves:
