  1. Backup File History "No usable drives found" after Win10 20H2 update

    Hello,

Following the Win10 20H2 update, I am no longer able to back up my file history. My SSD which I have previously used, is not detected as a "usable drive" anymore. Instead when trying to create a backup of my file history on my SSD I receive the message "no usable drives found".

Does anyone have a solution for this problem?

    Thank you!

    :)

No Usable (Network) Drive Found for File History backup in Windows 10

If you’re backing up to a network location, go to Settings > Update & security > Backup and reselect the network.

All fine until the last step. Backup doesn't provide an option to reselect the network. The Backup screen has options of:

Add a Drive, More Options, and Go to Backup and Restore (Windows 7).

"Add a drive" returns the no usable drive found error message. "More Options" leads to "See advanced settings" or "Restore files from a current backup". "See advanced settings" leads to "To stop using your current backup drive, go to Backup and Restore"
(Windows 7) and "No usable drive found. We recommend that you use an external drive for File History. Connect a drive and refresh this page or use a network location. Select a network location".

No Usable (Network) Drive Found for File History backup in Windows 10

I have been using a 4TB Seagate network drive on my desktop to back up my laptop and my desktop using Window's File History backup. Everything worked fine for a year until Dec. 28, 2017. After 10 days I noticed File History was no longer backing up on the
network drive. So I tried to disconnect and reconnect the network drive in File History on the laptop. Now I get the error message "No Usable Drive Found" on the laptop when I try to add a drive in File History and can no longer see the date of the last backup
    on the laptop.

Both computers use Windows 10 and have fully updated drivers. Network sharing and Home Group are both turned on. I can see the printer attached to the desktop computer from the Network screen on the laptop, but not the Seagate drive. File History backup
works on the desktop, which is hard wired to the Seagate, but not on the laptop which is connected through WIFI. I've tried connecting to different WIFI networks, resetting network sharing and the Home Group to make sure they are functional. Yesterday I spent
an hour with WIFI technical support and they walked me through the same steps. Nothing works.

    Please Help!

Backup File History "No usable drives found" after Win10 20H2 update

    File History restart

    Hi Jim,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community forums.

To change the backup drive for File History, the current process should be stopped. I suggest you to try the steps listed below to stop file history on an older drive and restart it on a new drive:

    Change File History backup drive:

    • Open Settings and navigate to Update & Security > Backup.
    • Click on More Options, scroll down to locate
Backup to a different drive section, and choose Stop Using Drive.
    • Plug in the new storage drive, navigate to Settings > Update & Security > Backup,
      and choose Add a Drive.
    • Restart File History and configure it by referring to the article

    Hope it helps.

    Regards,
