backup old PC and restore to a new PC: apps, settings, including registry

My computer has had multiple problems so HP is sending me a replacement. The replacement should be essentially the same system this time with working USB ports. My system required a registry fix to get the storage correct and I have a few apps and some system settings such as outlook. The system is a Windows 11. Can I use windows backup to save all my settings outlook, app registration, etc. and my registry settings or do they have to be done differently? Doing a complete reinstall is possible but frustrating since I have to inform the vendors with the software I am not making multiple co

  2. Windows 10 File History is unable to restore old backup files to a new PC

When adding an existing File History drive to a new PC via the Windows 10 Settings Panel, File History does not recognise the existing backups on the drive, and therefore there is no facility to restore these files to a new PC. Instead, it simply starts
backing up new files from the new PC to a new folder on the drive. There is no easy way to restore the backed-up files from the old PC to the new PC, and this is a huge problem.

I'm aware the legacy Windows 8.1-style Control Panel in Windows 10 has a version of File History which can restore old File History backups to a new PC, but aside from being increasingly well hidden, there's a good chance the legacy Windows 8.1 Control Panel
will be removed at some point from Windows 10.

So why is the ability to restore old File History backups to a new PC not available in the Windows 10 Settings Panel, and when can we expect to see this crucial feature added?

File transfer windows 10 to windows 10 using backup and restore

    Hello

I'm afraid you still don't seem to have understood my question.

Let me try again step by step.

    My plan:

    • Upgrade old PC running W7 to W10
    • Buy new PC with W10 pre-installed
    • Back up files and settings on old PC
    • Restore that backup onto new PC
    • Install application software onto new PC
    • New PC becomes my default PC, old one goes into retirement.
I was aware that Windows 7 Easy Transfer would not run on W10 which was why I proposed this option.

I have now found an article which gives me confidence that I am on the right track. Although it refers to an earlier operating system

  4. backup old PC and restore to a new PC: apps, settings, including registry

Migrating to new pc and virtualize old pc

    hello everyone,
I got a new pc and I wanted to "migrate" (do you say that? or clone?) the old pc on the new one.

The idea that I have based on my knowledge would be to have cloned the disk of the old pc to a vhd or vhdx file in the new pc and have a dual boot on vhd.

Also I would like to have a second vhd clone that I can use with a virtual machine at the same time as the new pc system.

I am aware that there is a "sysprep" command that prepares for a cloning on different hardware, besides I have seen that there is also a disk2vhd software that could help.

But I also noticed that macrium allows you to prepare a backup to be restored to new hardware. BUT I don't know how it works.

For the virtualization part I have an idea of a "virtual2phisical" software.

Obviously mine are just ideas that I don't know how to actualize in detail. Is anyone aware of a faster way?

Do you have any better suggestions for implementing this project?

Can you help me with the steps to take?

    Thanks,
