Backup/Recovery tools - Acronis vs Macrium

This is understood - discussion is about parking them temporarily and copying via wifi, or copying over wifi direct.

  2. This thread was exactly what I was looking for. But, one question remains. Can Macrium Reflect Free open an image file to extra files or folders?

Yes. Even easier than Acronis, just double click on the image and select which partition to mount.

  4. Backup/Recovery tools - Acronis vs Macrium

I don't know about easier, but certainly a lot faster. It's a trivial process with either product, but it takes a long time in Acronis.

I HAD been a registered user/owner of Acronis since 2006, last version I bought and upgraded to was the 2016 release. But over the years I saw Acronis getting bigger and bigger, adding more Bloat ware then actually needed. Saw my computer taking forever to do a simple complete image backup. Even slowed up my boot time because of all their added additions they put in my startup process.

Then I found out about Macrium Reflect Free version. Did everything I needed, faster and better then Acronis EVER did, at least for the last 2 or 3 versions of their product. I deleted every trace of Acronis about 6 months ago, I only use Macrium Reflect ever since. Computer now boots faster like it should, I gained more space on the SSD. I always make the Macrium Rescue USB stick and keep it handy and updated. I will never go back to Acronis.
Just my 2 cents on Acronis vs Macrium Reflect. *Smile

@OldMike65 Your post above was very helpful. Here's my situation and a question: Like you, I've been using Acronis for some time. I'm currently using TIH 2014 on a Windows 10 PC, even though Win10 is not officially supported by TIH 2014. I've had no problems, except for the usual Acronis quirks. In fact recently had a hard drive fail and did a perfect restore with TIH 2014. But this software is getting old, and it can be problematic (after installing new drive, it kept looking for files on the previous drive, causing failed backups, until I deleted and restored the archives file). So I'm looking to try something new, and reading lots of good things about Macrium Reflect.

Here's my question: Can I run Macrium Reflect side by side with Acronis for a while before undertaking the project of getting Acronis off my machine? This is an older thread, so I hope someone sees this.

  7. i was using acronis for some years but the latest versions interface (2015,2016,20,17) is really messed up.
i start using along with acronis, macrium reflect until finally i uninstall completely acronis.
macrium has easy to read interface and i like the speed of rapid restore. when i make experiments with various applications in my main windows 10 installation, i revert back to the image i prefer with macrium rapid restore in 2 minutes!!!!!!

install macrium free to test. you wont regret it!
