    Backup Windows 10 - backup not completing


    I have a 2tb laptop with Windows 10. I am trying to create a system image and backup my important folders. I am using a Seagate 2tb external hard drive. I have several failed attempts at backing up because I receive a 'insufficient disk space' message. This is after nearly a day of running the backup! Consequently I have NEVER been able to create a backup disc and am now concerned. I do not wish to backup to the Cloud.


    I have researched this and there's suggestions about partitions and/or using third party software. On previous Windows versions it seemed a fairly straightforward process to back up; now it seems like a nightmare! Can anyone help? BTW, overall my laptop has 1.2tb used space so there shouldnt be any issues backing up to a 2tb drive.

    Using network hard drive for backup

    It depends what sort of backup you want to do. If you're happy just backing up regular files, then there are a bazillion (really, that many!) different bits of freeware to do that. There is a good list here:

    Download Back Up Tools for Windows - MajorGeeks

    and pretty much all of them can do network backups. Some even have fancy options like encryption. Really, the most useful thing is just being able to schedule them and know they ran OK.

    You may also want to make a system image backup too, and you'll find that software in the very same list.

    I don't have Windows 8 as yet, so I'm afraid I can't suggest any for that platform. Personally, I use Clonezilla for image backups.

    cant complete backup

    Sorry to hijack this thread but i get this error while trying to backup from Windows.
    I have 400 GB free space and i try to backup a 22GB windows partition. Thanks.
