  1. Bad Image: Stuck on SFC Scannow and DISM RestoreHealth

I came back from 3 weeks out of town and got a blue screen of death. Then the computer got hung up trying to install updates. I'm not really sure the cause, or if there's a virus I still need to eradicate, but at any rate I was getting a bunch of class not registered messages and it seems most every .dll file is broken. I republished all .dll files to no avail. Did a chkdsk and it took forever, so I assume it accomplished something. Then I tried a sfc /scannow and it would fail at 13%. So I did a DISM checkhealth which stated the component store was repairable and operation completed successfu

So I did a DISM checkhealth which stated the component store was repairable and operation completed successfully. Same deal with the scan health. With restorehealth, it hangs up at 62.3%, but then completes and states that the source for the image repair was not found, but provided this link. I was under the impression that if you don't specify a source, it defaults to Windows Update for that stuff. I'm connected to the internet, so why didn't that work?

    Configure a Windows Repair Source

    This also takes me here.

    Repair a Windows Image

And at this point I'm pretty much lost as those are getting above my pay grade. I'd need my hand held a little to get an image. Once I have it, I can put it in a folder, use the DISM process and cite the location of the image, and be onto the next problem. Feeling defeated, I decided to try the sfc /scannow again and it worked. Kind of. It says Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them and that details are in the log. I rebooted and Windows applied some updates. I have the log and can post that, it's gibberish to me. I feel like between sfc /scannow and DISM I can get my computer fully working again, even though I've already spent more time on it than if I'd just done a fresh install. With the partial fixes it's been able to perform so far, I at least have a functioning start button again with fewer of those bad image notifications on startup, though a number of programs and features still remain unfunctional.

Forgot to mention that Windows Restore, Reset, Safe Mode, and a bunch of other features from WinRE weren't any help. It's like whatever has affected this computer has shored up a number of avenues to prevent it from being able to fix itself, at least the easy way.

windows 10 professional post installation corruption not fixed by sfc scannow or dism restorehealth

    Greg,

The troubleshooting for problems with corruption found by sfc /scannow and dism/ online /cleanup-image /restorehealth were related to the upgrade from windows 7 pro to windows 10 pro. The source for the windows 10 pro upgrade was the Microsoft web site.

It impacted some upgrades but not all upgrades. It is unclear why it impacts some and not all.

The source for the windows 10 pro dvd was hp for licensed HP or Compaq PC.

The problems with sfc / scannow and dism restorehealth corruption have been fixed.

sfc /scannow now displays: windows resource protection did not find any integrity violations

dism restorehealth now displays: the restore operation completed successfully. The operation completed successfully.

These were problems with the windows 10 pro operating system downloaded from the Microsoft web site and/or installed from the dvd.

When dism restorehealth finds corruption that it does not fix I don't understand how to guide it and find the source files that it is missing. In case there is corruption in the future please list the steps to use the windows 10 pro dvd to supply the dism
restorehealth command with the sources to fix the corruption.
