BAD RETAIL VERSION OF WINDOWS 10 PRO FROM RETAILER

I bought a full copy of Windows 10 Pro from newegg, not an OEM copy. After trying to tech the new build for 3 weekends, thinking it was a bad CPU or memory stick, I took it to the local repair shop. He tried to install from the USB and got the same blue screen I was getting with the same "Critical Process Died" error. He tried to install from an OEM stick he has and everything is working fine. So I have a bad USB stick from Microsoft. Newegg is no help. No refunds/No replacements. The Microsoft phone number is no help for customer service that I paid for to receive. The Microsoft help files ar

Has anyone moved the free windows 10 'Retail version' to another PC successfully?

I read on a questions and answers thread on Microsofts website that the free Windows 10 becomes the type it was upgraded from (e.g retail version).

Other threads seem to conclude it still acts like an OEM even in the case of the retail version binding only to the hardware it was first installed on.

Has anybody managed to reinstall Windows 10 on a new computer upgraded from a retail windows, or did it lock to the First hardware?

The EULA states "you may transfer the software to another device that belongs to you" so it looks possible ...

    Steps to try:

    • Install windows 7/8.1 retail on machine A
    • Upgrade to windows 10 for free.
    • Uninstall windows completely from machine A
    • Install the same windows 7/8 retail on machine B
    • Upgrade to windows 10 again (here's hoping)

If someone has already done the first to steps feel free to try see if it works!

I personally don't want to try the first to steps just in case I can't transfer it after if anyone has done this or has some insight please let me know.

Windows 8.1 Pro RETAIL to 10 Pro RETAIL clarification

I have read the other posts on this, and I have come to an answer, I would just really prefer a Microsoft Engineer or employee to provide a WORD for WORD answer. So I'm going to ask the question as clearly as possible. I respectfully ask that only MS employee(s)
    answer. Thank You.

    My first question is:

Does a Windows 8.1 Pro RETAIL licence become a Windows 10 Pro RETAIL license? That is, does a $199 8.1 Pro RETAIL license become a $199 Windows 10 Pro RETAIL license?

That's as simple a yes or no question as you can get, I think. Feel free to elaborate.

    My second question is:

Please solve this scenario. I built my own PC. I purchased Windows 8.1 Pro Retail, for $199 for this system. I've upgraded to Windows 10 Pro recently. Next month, I will be purchasing a new CPU, Motherboard and RAM because Intel Skylake is out and I want
it. Please advise on how to get my current copy of Windows 10 Pro installed and activated in my upgraded system.

    My third question is:

Generally, the consensus was that a Retail copy of Windows could be legally transferred to another computer as long as it's license is removed/deactivated on the previous machine. Have the terms and distinguishing factors changed when it comes to Retail
    versions of Windows?

    My final question is:

Do all Windows 7 and 8.x licenses in reality convert to OEM?

    Here's what I already know:

I know that when you upgrade, you get an equivalent version - however that is not a very clear answer when there are so many different versions under the exact same equivalent version

I've read conflicting statements from the same Engineer saying that when you upgrade, you get the equivalent version of Windows 10 and that it will activate for the life of that machine. This is conflicting because Retail copies can be moved from machine
to machine as long as only ONE machine has it installed and activated. This is very different from OEM versions which live and die with the machine itself.

    Thanks.

BAD RETAIL VERSION OF WINDOWS 10 PRO FROM RETAILER

Windows 8.1 Pro RETAIL to 10 Pro RETAIL clarification

    Thank You,

So here's what you've answered so far:

(1): Retail 8.1 Pro turns into Retail 10 Pro - YES and

(3): Retail 10 Pro license allows for the transfer of the OS to a different motherboard/machine pending the previous one is deactivated/removed - YES

Would you be kind enough to answer the second question then? This is where I am very confused on the process and is the million dollar question. I haven't seen it answered in the wiki anywhere. Here it is again.

    "My second question is:

Please solve this scenario. I built my own PC. I purchased Windows 8.1 Pro Retail, for $199 for this system. I've upgraded to Windows 10 Pro recently. Next month, I will be purchasing a new CPU, Motherboard and RAM because Intel Skylake is out and I want
it. Please advise on how to get my current copy of Windows 10 Pro installed and activated in my upgraded system."

    So in question terms:

How do I transfer my Windows 10 Pro Retail to a different machine/motherboard?

According to the wiki, Windows 10 is pre-keyed. That much is evident. I upgraded [3] 8.0 (8.1) Pro Retail licenses to 10 Pro licenses. I am a BYOPC guy and this is why I decided to get Full Retail versions of 8.0 initially. Eventually I upgraded all these
machines to 8.1 when that was released and now 10. I have no idea however, how to transfer the licenses to a different machine when I am ready to upgrade or switch out my hardware.

    Thanks again.
