Windows 10: Bad System Config Error resists all attempts to correct, installed a second instance of...

After restarting with updates, my Windows 10 PC AMD Ryzen 7 CPU, Gigabyte B450M mobo threw a BSOD with a Bad System Config Error. System Restore, recovering to a previous image, and attempting to reset all failed, as did attempting to remove the update. I finally resorted to installing a second copy of Windows 10, as attempting to reinstall over the top of the original OS also failed.At this point, is there a way to recover the original OS? Or to efficiently access the apps and programs from the new OS without having to reinstall them?

I am attempting to resolve a Bad Config Info error on a laptop. I tried the bootrec.exe /rebuildbcd and it comes back with results "Total Identified Windows Installations: 0" What would be the most appropriate next step?

The error Bad System Config means that something is wrong with the registry on your PC and you'll need to return to a previous configuration. It would be great, if you can help us with the details requested below:

• When do you get the error message?
  
• Does the computer boot to the Desktop?
  
• What is the make and model of the computer?
  
• Are you aware of any changes made to the computer recently?
  

I would suggest you to refer the steps mentioned in the article
Error 0x74: Bad_system_config_info and see if that helps.



Note: The last step in the above article talks about performing a reset on the computer. Resetting the computer will delete all the files and applications from the computer. Do not perform reset on your computer.

Got it. In that case switch to the WinRE Repair Mode or bootable media provided in this tutorial which includes everything possible to get Windows started, up to if necessary replacing the User account in order to save the install, doing an automated Reset, or the gold standard Clean Install:

If you have files that aren't backed up then there is a step to rescue them first. using the Command Prompt in WinRE or bootable media:
