Windows 10: Battery drain

Hello - not sure if this is the right forum for this question, because I'm not sure if it is a Windows problem. I purchased a new battery for my laptop ASUS G73sw. I charged it fully, with a view to charging it and using it until it ran out, and then repeating that cycle three times to acclimate the battery to being used to its full potential.

I charged the battery, and used it and it ran out of power in approximately 30 minutes. I charged it again, and used it - it lasted about 25 minutes. It is the correct battery, and I am not a gamer even though it is a gaming computer, so I did nothing to strain the computer's resources.

This happened once previously. From then until now, I have used the computer strictly on AC power - that is, plugged in, without a battery. Thought I would try again with the battery, to no avail.

I don't know if this is a Windows issue. or some other software issue, or a hardware issue. Any help would be appreciated.


P.S. When the computer died on battery power after 25 minutes of usage, plugging it in and turning it on generated a Disc check. The computer has a new SSD in it, which has not demonstrated any problems - the computer has been running well since installation of the SSD about three months ago. When this battery issue last happened, the computer had an HDD installed, so I don't think that the problem is with the disc.

Battery drains while on sleep mode.


even mine has a slow battery drain, using Win 8.1. Even when powered off, not in sleep or hibernate, but off. It still uses the battery to keep the clock going.
Turn off fast start, as suggested, hibernate over sleep as it uses less power, and if you aren't going to use it for several hours, shut it off.
