Windows 10: Battery Failure

I've only had my Dell Inspiron laptop for a little over a month now, today I was using it without the AC plugged in and it worked perfectly. I went to plug it back in to charge for a bit and when I came back to use it, it had died somehow. I tried booting it and I had noticed that it was taking unusually long. it finally turned on and I was presented with a permanent battery failure message. I've looked everywhere for a solution and none of them seem like it would work given that it suggests that I have to remove the battery, clean it, put it back in and boot up again. I'm not entirely sure that I can even remove the battery. I really need to get this laptop working again, it shouldn't be acting like this after over a month of use.

Another thing you could usefully look at is Device Manager. You should find 'ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery' under Batteries. Try uninstalling it then let Windows scan for new hardware and reinstall it.

Did quick search and found a few hits.

One HP forum suggested calibrating battery. This procedure may not be the one for your laptop so you could research the steps for your device. HP forums would likely be the best place as it is specific to HP. That said huge amount of knowledge and equipment on this forum. Maybe a new thread with the known issue could bring in answers.

laptop battery wont charge after latest update

1. Shutdown your laptop.

2. Remove the battery.

3. Connect the AC power adapter to your laptop.

4. Power on the laptop

5. Open the Device Manager by typing Devmgmt.msc into Start Menu or from Control Panel.

6. Under the Batteries category, right-click all of the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery listings, and select Uninstall (it’s okay if you only have 1).

7. Shutdown the laptop.

8. Insert the battery.

9. Power on the laptop.

If above suggestions wont resolve the battery charge issue then follow below steps.




Step 2

1. Shutdown the laptop.

2. Remove the battery.

3. Start the laptop with only AC adapter connected to laptop.

4. When you login to Windows OS connect the battery while Windows OS working.
