Windows 10: .bcd update Paragon 16

Trying the new Paragon 16 version backup and recovery. It lists in the advanced settings that is has the option to update the .bcd file? Can anyone dummy that down a bit as this is the first I've seen of it.

Interesting your comments having the same issues as I had on a machine you have installed a SSD drive. I have now done a clean install and rebuilt all my programs; (yawn I can’t believe how much setup is required having
to do this job even though I am meticulous by saving all my programs and licences in a backup folder specially for occasions like this).



Having contemplated the issue, I believe the problem may lie in the area of migrating the OS to the SSD, (I did this using Paragon). Paragon did this perfectly and everything worked well until the major 1511 update came
along. I can’t prove this but I believe the nub of the problem being, was that the migration to the SSD left behind a UEFI partition on the original HDD where the BCD file is possibly stored or mapping to the BCD is found by the OS. See picture below.





No advice or even help from a local computer expert could overcome the location of the BCD file problem and a clean install was the only cure for the problem. See picture below.





After all of this work I noticed that the 1511 update had automatically updated itself and caused no problems on the new install.

I also have a Laptop which I installed a massive 1TB SSD drive and cloned the original drive using Paragon onto the SSD and as there are no secondary disks involved, the 1511 update installed perfectly here with no issues.

It appears to me that the scenario that causes problems with windows 10 is when in a PC that has multiple disk drives, as in when installing a SSD drive for the OS, the 450 MB partition left behind on the original disk throws
into confusion the location of the BCD file which is crucial for booting. I don’t have enough knowledge about these UEFI partition issues but I am going to contact Paragon and send them a link to this posting and ask their advice about this most perplexing
and time wasting issue.

 

win 10 & win 10 anniversary

Paragon B&R 16. However, I still have B&R 15 which works perfectly. But I will not be able to restore the 1st win 10 backup I did on B&R 16. Never mind, such is life.
