Windows 10: BDRE drive not recognized after Windows 10 updates

I have three Surface tablets.

My main device is a Surface PRO (IV). I use a newer Surface GO when I travel. I also have an older Surface PRO (II) which I use on occasion. Recently, I attached my trusty BDRE drive by its USB cable to my Pro IV and it was not recognized. Same on my GO. I used this BDRE last summer to digitize a large number if video and audio DVD/CDs and did so with the IV and the II. So I next tried it on the II and it was recognized just fine. Thing is, the II sat unused and powered down for months. I checked its update history. It has not received an update since August 2018 when it received on 8/5 "Feature Update to Win 10 Ver 1803" and then the last one was on 8/6 when it received "2018-07 Security Update for Adobe Flash Player for Windows 10 Ver 1803 for x64-based systems". My IV and GO are fully up to date as of today.


It seems to me that an update received by the IV and the GO since August of 2018 has resulted in the BDRE drive not being recognized. It does not appear in Device Manager on either machine. It powers up and spins the disc, but doesn't autoplay like it did.


I also have an older Thinkpad X220 that is Windows 10 and fully up to date. It is attached to a docking station via USB. Since an update received during the last 30 days, it stopped recognizing the docking station. Then a later update restored the docking station except that the speakers attached to the docking station are no longer recognized in the Sound Panel or in Device Manager.


It seems that all too often a Windows Update interferes with connected USB peripherals. This has usually self-repaired with subsequent updates in the past. But this time, I've been waiting weeks and keep checking for updates and installing them, but nothing has fixed this yet.


Any ideas about how to fix this problem.

Windows 10 recognizes my SD Card as a local drive

You posted that you would try the suggested steps by Tryx3. May we have an update if the suggested steps have resolved the issue about your SD card being recognized as a fixed drive in Windows 10?

 

SATA drive not being recognized on Gigabyte Mobo

After I updated the BIOS to the latest version 8 I was able to have the SATA recognized.
After running sfc /scannow for maintenance I can't get the SATA drive to boot first. It is recognized in the BIOS and is listed first in the boot order under Advanced BIOS Features.

When the IDE drive boots it is not recognized in either Windows Explorer or disk management.

Any thoughts on why I can't see the SATA drive anymore would be appreciated.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK
