I have been happy with my T400 laptop and Win 7. After being "bugged" by Win10 pop ups, yesterday I did the upgrade to Win 10. I have noticed that my McAffee Security Suiute, Malware Bytes and Adblock Pluse have been disconnected. I could reactivate the Malware Bytes and Adblock Plus. The McAfee Security Suite is missing in action. I can't find it anywhere.

1st Be careful when you upgrade to Win 10. It doesn't ask permission.

2nd If there is someone out there that knows how I might find my McAfee Security Suite, please let me know. Its been 24 hours and I'm certain it is hungry and afraid.

    Thanks!

    :)

  2. Be careful with Win 10 install solutions...

So I was getting update error 80240020 every time MS tried to send the Win10 enable update...

Looked around on the Internet (including here), found the solution of deleting the contents of the windows/softwaredistribution/downloads folder... Gave it a try.

Now the hidden $Windows.~BT folder that had 4 Gb of Windows 10 files just waiting to be unleashed has somehow shriveled to 140 Mb. So, kind of a big step backwards there.

  3. NOKIA LPS-5 - Be careful

This is the email I've received from Nokia Care.

Because it's in Portuguese, I'm doing my best to make a reliable translation.

    "

    Dear Sir,

Thank you for contacting Nokia Care.

Answering your email, we do confirm that the phone contact was made by Nokia Care, Nokia customer support.

So, we retell the information given by phone. The LPS-5 doesn't have the folowing funcionalities:

    - Redial de last number dialed.

    - Voice dialing activation.

These funcionalities are related to the adaptor (LPS-5), you can initiate these funcionalities using the mobile phone, if supported by the phone.

You can get the last version of the Nokia LPS-5 manual, using this link:.

Chances are, the version of McAffee you had installed was not compatible with Windows 10, and rather than leaving your system in an unstable state, it simply did not migrate it to the new version.

Haha....ok its not as bad as you think. When you did your upgrade, you should have removed McAfee 1st, I would also remove Malwarebytes and then re-install. To get back your McAfeee re-install, if you can find the dir its on now, I would remove it and do a clean install. Then your pals will run a lot better. Down the road, after you settle in with your new windows 10, you might want to think about doing a Clean install of the OS.

Re-install Malwarebytes Premium and use Windows Defender (already installed) and do not re-install McAfee. That's my unsolicited advice...

Don't believe everything you read. Kapersky was caught red handed gaming those tests. They were creating new malware that they of course caught, but nobody else could because they were trying to pump up their scores.

Also, recent tests of Defender have been very different.

Kaspersky was cheating, but they were cheating by causing their competitors to detect more false-positives. That doesn't affect the detection rate of them. Kaspersky is still a good antivirus, despite the allegations, anyway.

Both AV Comparatives and AV-TEST, reputable websites, rated Microsoft's technologies as bad. Here are the results from AV Comparatives: AV-Comparatives Comparatives Reviews - AV-Comparatives Microsoft Security Essentials (and Defender) didn't do so well.

For example, they both have Wikipedia pages. Granted, they're short, and Wikipedia could be edited by anyone, but I haven't seen anything about Dennis Technology Labs.

Microsoft Security Essentials isn't the worst-but it isn't the best either. There are better free antiviruses if want to put the time into downloading and installing one.

Again, you can't exactly trust those because certain vendors have been proven to be gaming the system. To me, what's important is how intrusive the AV is. How much does it slow down your system. And Defender has always been the least intrusive of any I've found, while still providing good protection.

I think what's more important is a test of common malware, not every malware on the planet, including stuff that doesn't exist in the wild.

(For the record, common malware was tested. They give the details of the malware they tested in PDF)

If Defender had better detection rates and better heuristic detection, it would be fantastic. It's too simple in terms of protection. If someone managed to hack an important website, they wouldn't just add an exploit that would download something that has been out for 10 years. And usually "proactive" protection would block new and unknown malware. Unfortunately, it failed to block 50% of those viruses.
