Windows 10: Bear with me here - Updating from version 1909 impossible for me

I've been having an ongoing issue that is driving me batty. Right now I have version 1909 and updating Windows with 1909 updates are not an issue at all. In fact, all of my Windows 10 updates (save a few - see below) occur just fine. My PC is completely up-to-date Windows 10-wise.

My problem involves updating from 1909 - to version 20H2 (in this case the 20H2 features update) which continuously runs into snags. Now mind you, for a while, there was an optional update notification on my Windows 10 update window that featured a 20H2 Features update. From what I understand, the features update gives you some of the features available in the 20H2 version.

Alright, so I've now tried to install the 20H2 features a half dozen times since October of last year. In each instance, the update portion (after hitting download) works just fine, it goes to install (which takes a ridiculously long time - at least on my system), and then it asks to reboot.

Here's where it gets dicey. I go to reboot, and it tells me that the PC will restart several times during the installation process - which it does during the update process. No problem with restarts 1 and 2. It is when it gets to restart # 3 that something doesn't take and all of a sudden I get the message on the black screen telling me that... "all changes will be rolled back." There are no indications telling me what went wrong - just that the 20H2 features update stopped and did not take hold.

Now, as an aside, over the past several days, a taskbar notification has been showing up telling me that my version (1909) is nearing the lifecycle end date and that I should update as soon as possible. When I click on that notification, it just takes me to the Windows Update window, but there is no new update to install.

Does this mean that when the fully 20H2 version rolls out, I may not be able to update due to the features update not being able to install fully (indicating an issue with my PC)?

Any help here would be greatly appreciated. Here is what I've done so far:

1. Over the last few months, visited several Windows 10 forums, telling them of my inability to fully install the 20H2 Features Update (as mentioned above).

2. I followed all the advice given to me on those forums, running various command line prompts to find errors with my PC and/or Windows 10 - none were found.

3. I'm running a very clean system (as mentioned, all regular Windows 10 version 1909 updates occur without incident) with 64 Gigs of RAM (Windows 10 Home Edition - 64 Bit).

4. Furthermore, I've downloaded several Microsoft Windows update products that are supposed to help with updating Windows 10 manually, but the same scenario occurs in that they will try to download and install the 20H2 Features update only - and nothing takes. Even downloading the 20H2 features update manually and then installing manually still winds up with the scenario mentioned above (during the 3rd reboot).

Can anybody here finally help me nip this thing in the bud? I don't necessarily care about the 20H2 features update as I do about being able to finally update to the full 20H2 version when support for version 1909 ends.

User.000 issue after updating to 1909

I'm one of the many people suffering from issues with user profiles after applying Update 1909 to Windows 10. I've read all the threads I can find on the topic here and have followed the suggestions, all to no avail. Any other thoughts are appreciated.

After applying Update 1909, the ProfileImagePath was changed to c:\users\User.000
One file that was always in use and couldn't be removed was left in c:\users\User (can't recall or find the exact file now), so I could never rename or remove the c:\user\User directory.

I followed the multiple suggestions from Brink and others:

• Rebooted at least 6 times
• Enabled hidden Administrator
• Booted into Safe Mode
• Changed ProfileImagePath
• Tried to rename c:\users\User but couldn't because a file was still in use
• Copied all data from c:\users\User.000 into c:\users\User
• Rebooted and had temporary profile
• Followed steps in Brink tutorial to change ImageProfilePath; rebooted with no change
• Restored using Restore Point from before Update 1909 - returned to single profile state (User.000)
• Removed each update that was installed individually and rebooted after each update removal - profile state never changed
• After all updates were removed, repeated the steps above with hidden Administrator, changing profile, etc. - same issue with file in use in c:\users\User
• Followed all steps above with hidden Administrator but without copying files from User.000 to User - same results

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

 

Update issues with Win10 Version 1909

Hi.

Tried all the steps listed and result afterwards is the same. Still fails and uninstalls the update. Any other suggestions?

Windows 10 1909 Causes Secondary Hard Drive to not be Recognized

Installing the Windows 10 1909 Update causes my secondary hard drive to not be recognized.

Steps to confirm issue:

• Secondary drive not visible in Windows Explorer
• Secondary drive not visible in device manager
• Secondary drive not visible in disk manager

Steps to replicate issue:

• Installing 1909 update

Steps to resolve issue:

• Uninstall 1909 update

Since updates can only be delayed for so long, an actual fix would be appreciated.
