  1. Begging for help. Automatic Windows update screwed up my program

I have music editing software that simply will not install after the automatic windows 10 update last weekend screwed it up. I was forced to uninstall this program and now I can't get it back up and running. It has been 5 days of torture trying to solve this problem. Here's where it stands now:

I uninstalled the device driver that works with the software. However, when I try to install the most up to date driver I keep getting an error message that I must first remove the older driver. Well I did. I went in to device manager and uninstalled it. But yet I keep getting this message even after several restarts that I must first remove the older driver. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I'm losing my mind over this so any help would be greatly appreciated.

    :)

  2. Update screwed up programs.

I purchased this machine in June with Windows 10 installed. Today (October 1), I did a restart after installing the updates the Microsoft decided I must have. One of the programs that I had previously installed, a rather old calendar program that I liked,
which had run yesterday will not run after the restart. Attempts to reinstall it result in error messages about the registration key. Any suggestions, besides buying new software?

    Hi,

To better assist you with your concern, we just have few questions for you.

    • Can you post a screenshot of the error message you receive?
    • What troubleshooting steps have you done so far aside from reinstalling the application to help resolve your concern.

    Regards.

  4. Begging for help. Automatic Windows update screwed up my program

Hi Unchained81. Welcome to the TenForums @Unchained81

If you have install directions maybe order is important. If Windows sees a device in a number of cases it gets the driver for you, always beating you to punch. Some devices, like HP printers, want you to install software then attach/connect device. If you still have quick step up instructions lying around it will indicate order. Failing that...

I would head to the vendor of the software and see if they have a remover product. Some of these can be quite effective as they know where they placed all there stuff. While I was there I would make sure software is support in Windows 10 Fall Creators Update. If it is not support it doesn't mean it won't run but they won't fix.

They may even have some product patches that you need or should be using. Just check.

Failing that I would use Revo Uninstaller.

    Then try the install.

What is the name of the software?

  6. The software is Cubase AI 6 which I upgraded to Cubase Elements 9.5 because of this issue and somebody told me it would definitely be compatible with Windows 10.

Yes, this Windows Fall Creator update did this. Everything worked fine until this update was forced on me. On the install it gets as far as this point of the YSdriver Extension then comes to a stop:

As a result of that error I was instructed to grab the most recent driver from the Steinberg site (the hardware is a Yamaha amplifier that uses the Cubase software). This is where I was prompted to unistall the old driver for this new driver. I did but it keeps telling me the old driver is still there.

Thank you both for taking the time to help. It is GREATLY appreciated.

Thank you very much for trying to help. Thing is I've already removed the old driver but Windows is telling me it's still there. I'm at a total loss here on how to solve this problem. I can't believe the Fall Creator update that I didn't even ask for has caused this havoc for a week. So wrong.

I've left a message at the Cubase forums asking if there's an uninstaller program that might clean up every part of the install and possibly find this driver in another spot...??? Haven't gotten a response so I'm thinking there isn't one.

  9. So is this thing something you install in computer or connect to computer? If so disconnect and run revo.

Then do your install and reconnect / install.

    Can't hurt.

    Good luck.

  10. Problem solved but don't ask me how. A lot of deleting, re-installs, computer restarts, etc. and it suddenly opened up and looks to be working properly.

To those of you who chimed in and offered help....THANK YOU. I greatly appreciate your time and efforts. It's too bad these foolish updates get forced upon us and repeatedly mess up a computer that's been running smoothly. It's infuriating.

  11. Which edition of Windows 10 do you have? With Pro you have a lot more control over updates. You can update your edition from Home to Pro without the need to buy net new. .

You can also set you connection to "metered" (in Home edition) and then you can control when these "Feature" updates are added.

    Glad it's working.

  12. Get yourself a backup drive, then image the OS drive using Macrium. This way, if your OS gets wrecked, you can restore a working system easily, a piece of mind thing. You can image itself from itself running windows, I have done it. The image file is compressed. You may have enough free space on the drive in your PC right now. Best to have a data drive as a backup though.
