OK. And yeah, the R7 240 is an old card so the new one may work better with the newer drivers.

Regarding dual GPU's and driver issues, it's why I don't mess with dual GPU setups myself.... way too many driver issues.

Anyway good luck with the RX 460. Will perform much better than the R7 240.

  2. I just have to afford newer one first lol, and newer Power supply, I hope the OP of this thread gets his/her issues sorted though, and meanwhile i'll just try to save the money to afford newer card

460 doesn't use much power either, here's after all 3D tests in Performance test 9.0:

Current Power Supply is Asus OEM 300 or 350 watt, so most likely do have to upgrade that before installing the new card, just affording it all is next challenge

Check how much power your 240 uses, it's probably not much less if at all.

    Hey guys.

So my R9280X isn't faulty. I went out and purchased a brand new graphics card (same model as my original). Used DDU to remove my previous drivers. Installed the new card and installed the latest drivers. Started a youtube video and the display driver crashes (screen goes blank then recovers). Then the system crashed. So it's not my other GPU itself being faulty as it does the same with the brand new card.

EDIT: I should also mention, sygnus21, that my card fan does not increase when I'm gaming. For some reason despite it getting more than 55C to about 60C it does not increase fan speed to compensate the temperatures. This is why I manually set the fan speed to 67% when playing GTA V. It keeps the card temperature between 48 and 55 instead of an excessive 60+C.

My PSU is a grade-A Corsair AX1200i (modular 1200W) and runs my system perfectly. I have no abnormal component voltage spikes or issues as a result of the PSU so that can be ruled out. It's usually only when something needs hardware acceleration (for the GPU) it starts to cause some issue. For example if I try to load a youtube video (flash/html based) and use Spotify and other applications at the same time sometimes I get little hangs and sometimes a full display driver crash and thus recovers...the other times I get a TDR (Timeout Detection/Delay Recovery) and a system crash accusing the display drivers as the cause of the crash.

My fans on my GPU do work and they are always spinning. When in "auto" mode the fans spin at about 15-20% speed. I've set a profile for the fans to start increasing speed to cool the GPU at 44% at 56 and 65% at 60'C.

When I was talking about Vista, TDR is what I was talking about. A lot of people had those. Had a few post here and there on the issue. Here's one of mine in the vista forums. Another where replacing my card solved it

Even had it in my game guide before I removed it because I hadn't seen one in forever. Weird you're getting them in ten. You sure those cards are good?

Anyway I have ask questions in order to try and help. If all is good elsewhere, I don't have anything further to add at the moment. Sorry *Sad

  11. Just as a note to the fan speeds the OP has been experiencing...

Radeon R9 series cards have a definite issue with the fan speed setting when set to Auto. No matter the temperature on R9 series cards, the fan will not go above 20% when set at Auto. At least in my experience with two of them.

My R9 280 will go until it practically ignites without increasing the fan speed. More than once I have had the card shut down from overheating while playing a game when the fan was set to Auto. I now set my card manually for a constant speed of 65%, and I have had zero issues since then. I honestly think that it is some kind of driver/temp sensor thing in the R9 series at least. Sadly, I don't have one of the RX cards to test to see if they have resolved the auto fan issue.

I don't know if this is relevant to the OP's issue, but he is definitely not alone in his fan/driver problems.

*Smile I have to laugh at this because I remember playing Dragon Age: Inquisition and having my Sapphire R9-280X Vapor X's fans run so fast and loud to keep the heat at bay that I though the card was going to explode.

Dragon Age: Inquisition uses Mantle (now Vulcan), (or DX11) as it's API and the graphics really pushes cards. Even my Sapphire R9 Fury gets a workout with that game. And yeah, the fans definitely run above 20% percent! *Eek

Certainly haven't experienced your issue *Smile

I wonder if it is a problem unique to XFX cards then? Both of my R9 cards are XFX, and neither one of them will go above 20% at auto. My XFX 7770 was the same. Maybe it's time to change brands.
