Windows 10: Best Practice for Unmounting External Drive

I have created a mirror image on an external drive. I wish to dismount this drive until I need to make another mirror image. I have 5 external drives so I am unable to identify the drive I wish to disconnect using the Windows 10 Pro software.

Does it matter if I shut down the computer and remove the external drive connection at the drive itself and not from the computer?

The space behind the computer is quite cramped so I would prefer to not have to disconnect the drive at the computer.

• Open your External Hard Drive file in File Explorer.
• Type the name of the file you want to search on the search box and click Enter.

The file will show up in Search Results and you will be able to move it to the correct folder.
